Lava tides,[1] also known as rising lava,[2] appear in the Super Mario franchise as a lava-related hazard that moves up or down, though the precise direction varies between appearances.

History

Super Mario series

New Super Mario Bros.

Lava tides in New Super Mario Bros. appear only in World 4-Tower and World 8-6, where they constantly rise up.

Super Mario Galaxy

Melty Molten Galaxy
Lava tide on the Lava Sea Planet in Melty Molten Galaxy

Lava tides in Super Mario Galaxy appear in Freezeflame Galaxy and Melty Molten Galaxy, where they rise but also fall.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Lava tides in New Super Mario Bros. Wii rise up constantly in World 8-6 and drain in World 8-Bowser's Castle in the second room and once the ! Switch is activated.

New Super Mario Bros. 2

Lava tides in New Super Mario Bros. 2 appear in World 5-Tower, World 6-Bowser Castle, and World Star-Castle where they only rise up.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Lava tides in New Super Mario Bros. U appear in Rising Tides of Lava, where they constantly rise and fall, as well as in Red-Hot Elevator Ride, where they only rise up. Lava tides in New Super Luigi U appear in Current Event, where they only rise up.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

Lava tides in Super Mario 3D World appear only in Simmering Lava Lake and Captain Toad's Fiery Finale where they rise and fall.

Super Mario Maker 2

Lava tides appear in Super Mario Maker 2 as part of the Castle course theme, where the player can set the level and speed of lava tides.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Lava tides in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker appear only during the Draggadon boss levels, where they rise constantly.
