Tortes are a type of Terrapin that work as chefs in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake. Their name is German for "layer cake," and resembles the word "tortoise." Only two of them, Chef Torte and his apprentice, appear in the game, and work as the bakers in Marrymore. They attack Mario after he stops the wedding between Booster and Princess Peach, which meant their cake would go to waste.
Battle
Despite their statistics, the Tortes are absolutely invincible and cannot be defeated. Their only attack consists of demanding that Mario stops before running up and punching him. Mario must instead attack the cake, known as Bundt, which will eventually come to life as the 'true' boss battle and scare the two off.
Although this is the only occasion Tortes are battled in the final game, there are a few unused enemy formations involving them, potentially meaning they were intended to be a generic enemy at some point instead.[1]
