“YES! I'd love that! I'll do me best. I'll never rest! You'd be impressed.”
Captain Koopa Troopa, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Captain Koopa Troopa is one of the main protagonists of the Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser story mode from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. He is part of the Elite Captain Quartet and is known for his rhymes, which most characters think are annoying.

History

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Captain Koopa Troopa first encounters Captain Goomba, Captain Shy Guy, and Captain Boo in Teehee Valley. Out of boredom and loneliness, he joins the Goomba Squad, even accepting the offer to join as a captain without question. He suggests to the Captains to ask Popple where Bowser went without fighting him. The asking works, however Popple still fights the Goomba Squad as payback for Chucklehuck Woods, but they win regardless. While Fawful taunts the squad about Bowser being "no longer a thing of this world", he cruelly insults Captain Koopa Troopa's rhymes before the squad heads off to Joke's End to find and repair the Koopa Cruiser. He rhymes with some Buzzy Beetles who were donating their shells to repair the Cruiser, and nearly causes them to leave with their shells. Before the Goomba Squad raids Bowser's Castle, he tries to tell Captain Goomba to remember that Bowser was no longer there, only to get pelted by a Turnip from Captain Shy Guy. Like other Koopa Troopas, Captain Koopa Troopa's Special Skill is Rock Solid, which temporarily boosts his defense.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

Captain Koopa Troopa appears in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, where he is an enemy and recruitable ally in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode. He first fights alongside several Koopa Troopas in Koopa Troopa Trouble and then fights alongside Captain Goomba, Captain Shy Guy, Captain Boo, and King Bob-omb in The Power of Junior. During this time, he also gave up rhyming for jokes, only for his attempted joke involving wordplay between Bowser's name and telling a waiter to bow to fall flat. He later joins Bowser Jr.'s troops along with the other captains after saving him and Wendy from the Best Fitness Friends. Like other Koopa Troopas, Captain Koopa Troopa is weak against pink Shy Guys. Unlike other Koopa Troopas, Captain Koopa Troopa retains his Rock Solid Special Skill.

Personality

“What's that? You really enjoy my company, and especially my rhymes? Oh, thank you! I think I'm the best-looking one here too. Hm? You respect me as friend AND as a superior ally? You're too kind! You shouldn't dote on me so! No, no, I don't deserve such praise... Hey, wait! Forget I said anything. You already have, haven't you?”

His main personality quirk is his tendency to speak in rhymes. Other characters are often annoyed by his rhymes, typically resulting in a drawn-out silence with nothing but wind sounding; Fawful, however, is vocal about how bad he finds them, calling them "unspecial and full of cringe." Captain Goomba, on the other hand, is encouraging of them in many cases. In Bowser Jr.'s Journey, his jokes are treated the same way, with characters frowning upon them and the silence with wind blowing. This is to the point where Wendy, having just been freed from a barrel by Captain Koopa Troopa, asks to be put back in the barrel after the latter tells three jokes in a row.

Profiles

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

  • Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser profile: They look innocent, but their shells provide a tough defense. Dry Bones may share their bone structure, but beware-they know their weakness!

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey

  • Bowser Jr.'s Journey profile: One of the legendary original captains who saved Bowser and the Minions from catastrophe. His jokes are bad, but his rhymes are rad.
