History

Yoshi's Story

Sprite of a bee swarm in Yoshi's Story

A small variety of Bees[1] appear in Yoshi's Story. Bees fly around their beehive in swarms, not letting Yoshi pass, forming a large hand shape with their swarm. Yoshi has to walk slowly to prevent the Bees from bothering him. If Yoshi hits their hive with an egg, they will attack him. The bigger bumblebees appear in the level Cloud Cruising. They do not try to injure Yoshi, but he will get stung by the bumblebee if he comes in contact. They can be defeated by a simple stomp, or by being eaten.

Mario Party series

Bees make several appearances in the Mario Party series, playing roles in both the boards and minigames.

Mario Party 2

In Mario Party 2, beehives appear in the minigame Honeycomb Havoc. If a player winds up with one, they are attacked by bees and eliminated from the game.

Mario Party 7

In Mario Party 7, bees appear in the minigame Big Dripper. Players must duck down to avoid the swarm while collecting their dripping honey.

Players pilot bee-like aircraft in the minigame Buzzstormer.

Mario Party DS

In Mario Party DS, DK's Stone Statue features an Event Space where bees emerge from their hive with coins the player can collect.

Bees appear as an obstacle in the minigame Hedge Honcho. Players must avoid touching them and instead wait for them to buzz off.

In Mario Party 10, bees appear in the minigame Beeline Shrine, serving as the main obstacles. Here, they resemble real-world honeybees.

Mario Party Superstars

In Mario Party Superstars, bees reappear in the Mario Party 2 minigame Honeycomb Havoc.

Super Mario Sunshine

Bees in Gelato Beach

In Super Mario Sunshine, various Beehives can be found in Bianco Hills, Gelato Beach, and Pianta Village. If Mario gets too close to a Beehive or knocks one down, the Bees[2] swarm him, causing damage if he gets stung. Yoshi can eat these Bees for one Coin each. The last Bee to be eaten always gives a Blue Coin or 1-Up Mushroom. If Mario talks to an NPC while bees are chasing him, he will be pushed in random directions mid-conversation and will not take damage.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and its remake, Bees appear as enemies alongside the Beehoss enemy, which had the ability to summon Bees from its honeycomb during battle. Bees are also used as the Beehoss's projectiles in the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode. In the remake, they use their design from Mario & Luigi: Dream Team.

Bees reappear with Beehoss enemies in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team. If any bee is counterattacked and defeated on the Beehoss's turn, the remaining bees will come back and attack either Mario or Luigi, depending on who counterattacked them, which cannot be avoided.

Super Smash Bros. series

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a Beehive item appears which, when thrown at an opponent, releases a swarm of bees that attacks them. However, if a player attacks a Beehive directly, the bees go after them instead.

Mario + Rabbids series

Bees appears as ambient animals in both Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
