A stomp, also called a Foot Stomp,[1] is the second part of a jump that occurs while a character comes down. The player does not have to jump; a stomp can be performed any time Mario (or another character) is falling. If the character stomps on top of an enemy or switch, they can defeat the enemy or activate the switch. Stomping on enemies is Mario's primary attack, but it does not work on spiked, ghostly, underwater, or fiery enemies (if stomping is attempted, Mario can take damage).
