Chewies are green Piranha Plant in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Their stems and leaves are depicted as purple in game, and green in artwork. Chewies have high attack and magic attack and are usually accompanied by Shy Aways and other enemies. In battle, they use the fire attacks Drain and Mega Drain, and can also put party members to sleep with Pollen Nap.
Outside of battle, they share the same red color as ordinary Piranha Plants. Likely due to this reason, the Bean Valley section of the Nintendo Power guide mistakenly calls them Smilaxes, which is a separate enemy with the same overworld sprite.[1]
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Chewies are mentioned briefly by Viridi during Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.
