Treasure Hunt is the first level of P. 1-Beginning in Yoshi's Story. The level, which functions as a secondary tutorial level, is set in a hillside with a few trees in its first half and a grove in the latter half, with its terrain mostly consisting of flat stretches of land with two lanes and few hazards. Shy Guys are introduced in this level, with some walking back and forth on the ground while others hide behind bushes to ambush the Yoshis. Pak E. Derms, small elephants holding stops signs, also appear exclusively in the first half in the level, blocking the Yoshis from passing them. The hidden Heart Coin letter for this stage is Y.

Layout

As the name implies, many coins, Melons, and other secrets are hidden throughout the level. To reveal them, the Baby Yoshis must use their Sniff ability to pinpoint their location and then Ground Pound.

The first half of the level is hilly and later features paths that fork off before converging again. At many of these forks are Pak E. Derms, enemies that will prevent the Baby Yoshis from progressing and move to the path they are on. While they cannot be defeated, the Yoshis may temporarily stun them using a Ground Pound and then jump over their signs to bypass them before they recover. A large hill is encountered past the first Pak E. Derm, though the Yoshis can scale it using the Surprise Balls found on both its sides. On the other side of the hill is a ? Block that can be hit to initiate the Melon Race minigame. The end of the area has a vase that will take the Yoshis to the second half of the level.

The second half of the level contains many more paths, some of which have Shy Guys that will jump from bushes and run at the Yoshis. Towards the beginning of the area, the player can encounter and free Poochy by Ground Pounding the stake he is attached to. Once done, he will then guide the Yoshis to the end of the level while occasionally pausing to bark, indicating a secret to be revealed. Poochy will eventually stop at the end of the level, which has another vase that will return the Yoshis to the beginning of the level, where they may hunt for any fruits or secrets they missed.

Special Hearts

  • Special Heart 1:

Melons

  • 1: The first melon is found in a bubble past the first Egg Box and the bubble holding a Banana.
  • 2-4: Three Shy Guys holding melons may be found at the top of the first hill. The first two walk together under some bubbles while the third patrols the bottom path of the first forked road, past the last two Shy Guys.
  • 5: A melon is hidden at the center point of the same forked road's upper path.
  • 6: A melon will automatically be rewarded when the player reaches the top of the large hill.
  • 7: Another hidden melon can be found at the center point of the third forked road, which the second Pak E. Derm encountered is blocking.
  • 8-14: Up to seven melons can be won by completing the Melon Race in time. The minigame can be initiated by hitting the ? Block on the other side of the large hill.
  • 15-16: A pair of Shy Guys holding two melons are found on the bottom path of the forked road in front of the ? Block.
  • 17: Another melon held in a bubble rests in front of the next forked road.
  • 18: On the stair-like ledges leading to the vase is yet another Shy Guy carrying a melon.
  • 19: Yet another hidden melon can be revealed on the topmost ledge, close to the other steps.
  • 20: The first melon in the level's second half is hidden on the first bottom fork of the road, under a blue bush.
  • 21-22: Two hidden melons can be found on the same path, in front of the deep green bushes where two Shy Guys are hiding.

Storybook segment

And so the adventure began. The Yoshis set out to find the Super Happy Tree. Poochy the dog helped out. Not even elephants could stop the Yoshis. So far, so good. If they could stay happy, the tree would be saved.
