Warp Boxes are objects first appearing in Super Mario 3D Land. They are orange-outlined clear boxes with exclamation marks on the sides.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario 3D Land
Warp Boxes are interactable objects in Super Mario 3D Land. When Mario or Luigi runs into a Warp Box, he is teleported to another Warp Box in another area, in a similar manner to Warp Pipes and Launch Stars. After the player comes out of a Warp Box, it may sometimes disappear, leaving Mario or Luigi with no way back.
In early versions of the game, Warp Boxes were purple and some showed four diamonds as opposed to exclamation marks. However, the color was later given to Mystery Boxes.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Warp Boxes return in Super Mario 3D World and its port, where they work just as they did in Super Mario 3D Land. There are also Warp Boxes that are trapped inside locked metal boxes, forcing Mario to get five Key Coins to make them available. Unlike in Super Mario 3D Land, Warp Boxes have the same sound effects as Mystery Boxes. When playing with multiple players, characters that do not enter a Warp Box a few seconds after one does are automatically pulled inside.
Super Mario Maker 2
In Super Mario Maker 2, Warp Boxes can be placed in the Super Mario 3D World style. They function similarly to Warp Doors, although they teleport the player as soon as they come in contact with it rather than requiring 
to be pressed. The Koopa Troopa Car can enter Warp Boxes as well. The Warp Boxes in this game lack confetti inside them.
Locked Warp Boxes, under the name "Warp Box (With Key)" also appear, and they require a Key to open rather than five Key Coins. If the player does not have a Key, they will phase through the locked Warp Box.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Warp Boxes return in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports, appearing in Clear Pipe Cruise (Wii U version only), Chaos in the Grand Labyrinth (Nintendo Switch version only), Mummy-Me Maze Forever, and the three Coins Galore bonus level variants.
Mario Party series
In Mario Party 10, when the players land on a Bowser Space, a dark-green Warp Box with Bowser's emblem on it appears and transfers the player to Bowser.
Warp Boxes appear as usable items in Mario Party: Star Rush, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Super Mario Party. In Mario Party: Star Rush and Mario Party: The Top 100, they warp the player to the space of a rival. In Super Mario Party, they appear only in the Partner Party mode, where they warp the user to the space of their teammate.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Nintendo Switch)
Warp Boxes appear in the Nintendo Switch remake of Mario vs. Donkey Kong, appearing in stages of Merry Mini-Land and Slippery Summit. They work similarly to how they did in Super Mario Maker 2, where they teleport Mario to another box with the corresponding color, however they can be used an infinite number of times. Warp Boxes come in blue, red, and yellow variants, which are toggled by their respective Color Switches.
Unlike in other appearances, Mario can also bring carried items like Keys with him through a Warp Box. Mini-Marios can also enter Warp Boxes, as demonstrated in some levels of Slippery Summit Plus like Level 6-4+, although this does not result in the gameplay being temporarily paused.
