Moo Moos[1][2] (also lowercased as moo moos)[3] are cows[4][5][6][7][3] in the Super Mario franchise that debuted in Mario Kart 64. They are largely associated with farm-based courses in the Mario Kart series, in which they typically act as obstacles.
History[edit]
Mario Kart series[edit]
Mario Kart 64[edit]
Cows can be seen in the background of the Mario Kart 64 course named Moo Moo Farm.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!![edit]
Although cows themselves do not appear in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mushroom City has a truck advertising the Moo Moo Farm course with the image of a cow.
Mario Kart DS[edit]
Cows once again appear in the background of the Retro Course called N64 Moo Moo Farm. It is the first game to give them the blue collars with hanging golden bells.
Mario Kart Wii[edit]
In Mario Kart Wii, cows serve as obstacles in the course Moo Moo Meadows. When hit, they cause the player to spin out. While the ones seen up close use full models, some in the distant background reuse flat textures from Mario Kart DS. A truck in the Moonview Highway course also has a picture of a cow printed on it with the text "Moo Moo Dairy".
Mario Kart 7[edit]
Two cows make a small appearance in Mario Kart 7 on a sign in the Wii Coconut Mall course, which reads "Moo Moo Dairy".
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
Moo Moos return in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the return of the Moo Moo Meadows track, with some Moo Moos now having other colors, such as solid black or brown. Also, in Toad Harbor and the game's rendition of Toad's Turnpike, there are advertising trucks and signs with Moo Moos on them. There is also a sponsor known as Moo Moo Meadows Milk. In this game, Moo Moos appear in four different colors; white with blue spots, white with brown spots, black, or brown. The Mii Racing Suit based on a Moo Moo appears in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass.
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
Although Moo Moos themselves do not appear in Mario Kart Tour, the Moo Moo Meadows Milk sponsor returns in several courses in the game, and the Moo Moo Mii Racing Suit and Moo Moo Offroader are both based on them and were introduced in the Animal Tour.
Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit[edit]
In Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, the Windmill Meadows features some Moo Moos as obstacles.
Mario Party series[edit]
Moo Moos make four background appearances in the Mario Party series. They appear in the background of Western Land in Mario Party 2 and Super Mario Party Jamboree and Fowl Play in Mario Party 3, and in Mario Party: Island Tour, they appear on Perilous Palace Path.
Mario Pinball Land[edit]
In Mario Pinball Land, there is a rare chance for a Moo Moo to pop out of a hole by hitting a Monty Mole. If Mario hits the Moo Moo before it disappears, he gains 100,000 points.
Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games[edit]
Cows reappear in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games on Moo Moo Meadows as obstacles in the Dream Equestrian event.
Yoshi franchise[edit]
Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]
Although Moo Moos themselves do not appear in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, Moo Moo Yoshi is available as an unlockable Yoshi pattern which resembles a Moo Moo.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
In Yoshi's Crafted World, the Moo Moo Meadows Milk sponsor from Mario Kart 8 makes various cameo appearances on the cartons and signs in the background of the flip side of Rail-Yard Run and Go-Go Yoshi. As first seen on the front side of Rail-Yard Run, there are also five cardboard Moo Moo crafts, which serve as Coal Blockafeller's first souvenir request. There is additionally a Moo Moo costume for Yoshi to wear.
Other appearances[edit]
Nintendo Badge Arcade[edit]
Cows[7] appear as badges in Nintendo Badge Arcade that the player may collect and decorate their Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu with. They are a part of the Mario Kart 8 set of badges.
Minecraft[edit]
In the Super Mario Mash-up in Minecraft, the traditional Cow's design is replaced with the Moo Moo design found in the Super Mario titles. Red and green Moo Moos with mushrooms on their back replace Mooshrooms.
