Skeleton Goonies[1] are the undead skeletal counterparts of Goonies in the Yoshi's Island series and other games starring Yoshi. Skeleton Goonies cannot be ridden on, unlike their normal counterpart, and attempting to causes them to lose their wings and fall. They also fall if attacked with an egg. Some carry bombs to drop on Yoshi, similar to the regular type, but they never carry green Shy Guys. Oddly enough, they have feathers even though they have skeletal wings. A flightless variety exists known as the Flightless Skeleton Goonies.

History[edit]

Yoshi's Island series[edit]

Skeleton Goonie

Skeleton Goonies first appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake. They are featured in the level, World 6-1: Scary Skeleton Goonies! but first appear during the first skiing part of World 5-3: Danger - Icy Conditions Ahead. Skeleton Goonies also appear in the opening segment of King Bowser's Castle.

Skeleton Goonies have the same role and design in both sequels, Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi's New Island, using sprites edited from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island in the former and sprites edited from Yoshi Touch & Go in the latter. Skeleton Goonies are conspicuously smaller than ordinary Goonies. The Goonies of Yoshi's New Island are encountered in Bowser's Castle Break-In.

Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]

Skeleton Goonies appear in Yoshi Touch & Go, in which they fly in the top screen, sometimes dropping bombs and Shy Guys. Hitting a Skeleton Goonie with an egg rewards a Blue Coin.

Super Princess Peach[edit]

Yoshi's Woolly World / Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]

They appear in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World with a woolly design, like most other elements. They appear in three levels: Kamek's Last-Ditch Flyby, King Bowser's Castle and their self-titled level Skeleton Goonies' Lava Lair. Skeleton Goonies' Lava Lair consists mostly of lava with some sections of Cascading Stones. To complete the level with all items without the "Immunity to fire and lava!" Power Badge, carefully bouncing from the many Skeleton Goonies is required.

Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]

Skeleton Goonies are platforms in Poochy's Magma Run and background elements in the first phase of The Great King Bowser in Yoshi's Crafted World.

Profiles[edit]

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island / Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]

  • Shogakukan guide: あほーどりみたいに、背中に乗せてはくれない。爆弾を運んで来ることもある。[2] (They don't carry you on their backs like Goonies. Sometimes they carry bombs.)
  • Player's Guide: Unlike their feathered family-members, you can't hitch a ride on a Skeleton Goonie.[1]
  • Shogakukan guide (Game Boy Advance version): あほーどりのように背中に乗ることはできないが、ふみつけたり食べてからはき出すとほねあほーむしになる。爆弾を運んで来ることも......。[3] (They cannot ride on their backs like Goonies, but if you step on them or eat them and then spit them out, they become Flightless Skeleton Goonie. They can also carry bombs...)

Yoshi Touch & Go[edit]

  • Shogakukan guide: 上空の左右どちらかから現れ、ヘイホーを落として去っていく。見逃すと何度でもヘイホーを連れてもどってくるので、早めに倒しておきたい。ヘイホーを落とす前をねらうといい。[4] (They appear from either side of the sky, drop a Shy Guy, and leave. If you miss them, they will come back again and again with Shy Guys, so it is important to defeat them as soon as possible. You should aim at them before they drop their Shy Guys.)

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

  • Shogakukan guide: ホネだけになったあほーどり。水平にゆっくりと飛んでくる。あほーどりと異なり、乗った瞬簡に翼が崩れる。そのため、長時間乗り続けることはできない。[5](A Goonie, reduced to only bones. It flies horizontally and slowly. Unlike the Goonies, its wings collapse the instant it is ridden on. Therefore, it is not possible to continue riding it for a long time.)
