History

Mario Kart series

Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Big Pokeys appear as obstacles alongside normal-sized Pokeys in Dry Dry Desert. They are positioned in place and put their head on the ground at regular intervals, forming a hoop shape that the racer can drive through. They do not appear in the Mario Kart 8 rendition of the course.

Mario Kart Wii

A single Big Pokey appears in Mario Kart Wii. It appeared in Thwomp Desert exclusively in the tournaments of October 2008, and September 2009. The players had to battle the Pokey, which was located at the center of the course. Bob-ombs were used to attack it, and as it got damaged, body segments would move around.

Super Mario series

Super Mario Galaxy

In Super Mario Galaxy, only two Big Pokeys (under the name Pokey[1][2]) appear in the entire game. One appears on one of the tropic planets in Good Egg Galaxy, and the other appears on one of another pair of planets in Dusty Dune Galaxy. To defeat one, Mario or Luigi must spin a coconut into one to knock all of its segments down, and jump on its head to finish it off. Doing so will make a Launch Star appear.

New Super Mario Bros. U

A Big Pokey in New Super Mario Bros. U

In New Super Mario Bros. U, Big Pokeys appear in Morton Koopa Jr.'s boss fight. Morton uses his hammer to knock the invulnerable Pokey segments at the player.

They reappear in New Super Luigi U with the same role.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam

In Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Big Pokey appears as a boss in Doop Doop Dunes Grotto alongside Paper Tower Power Pokey. In battle, it attacks by lying sideways and rolling forwards and backwards, an attack which can potentially damage Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario based on how many segments the Big Pokey currently has. Destroying the Big Pokey's segments will deplete its range, although it can grow these segments back if Paper Tower Power Pokey has more. The only way to defeat Big Pokey is by attacking its head.

Big Pokey has a substantial amount of health and attack power, and will become enraged when Paper Tower Power Pokey is defeated (and vice versa).
