A Red Egg from Yoshi's Island DS

A Red Egg[1][2] is a red Yoshi Egg first found in Super Mario World. It has an orange tint to its shell. The egg hatches into a red Baby Yoshi. When adult Red Yoshis lay eggs, the egg is usually a Red Egg.

Red Eggs also play an important role in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and later Yoshi's Island DS. If a Green Egg recoils many times off a wall, it turns into a Red Egg. However, if it recoils too much, the egg becomes useless and falls off-screen. Red Eggs can also be obtained from red Egg Blocks, though unlike the green Egg Block, Yoshi only gets one egg. When Red Eggs hit an enemy, two Stars appear where the impact was.

Red Eggs return in Yoshi's Crafted World, where they are once again created by a Green Egg hitting a wall twice before being recollected or hitting an enemy. They give three Hearts to Yoshi when used to defeat an enemy, with the Hearts automatically being collected upon spawning, unlike in prior games where the Stars had to be manually grabbed.
