“Egads! Do you know what you have there? That fertilizer comes from the Beezo clan, famous for its miraculous feats of gardening. I looked for it beyond the cliffs, even tried Bean Valley, but failed. I've traveled around the world and waited a lifetime for some of that fertilizer you've got there!”
Gardener, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

The Fertilizer is an item in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It is first obtainable after beating Valentina in Nimbus Land. Once she is defeated, the player must walk against the right-most edge of the town. This causes Mario to walk in the air towards a Beezo. Talking to it makes the Beezo give the Fertilizer in exchange for letting it go.

Mario can take the Fertilizer and show it to the Gardener in Rose Town. After showing him the Fertilizer, the Gardener speaks quickly in amazement, increasing the tempo of the town's music as well. This causes Mario to collapse onto the ground. After he recovers, the Gardener asks for Mario to give him the Fertilizer. Once the Gardener is given both the Fertilizer and Seed, he puts them in the nearby pot. This causes a beanstalk to rise from the pot, allowing access to the two Lazy Shells. After the beanstalk finishes growing, the Gardener asks if it needs more fertilizer, causing Mario to collapse again. Because it is considered as a normal item, the player can prevent access to the Lazy Shells by selling or throwing away either the Fertilizer or Seed.

In the Switch remake, the Fertilizer is made a key item and cannot be sold or thrown away.
