Biddybuds are common enemies first appearing in Super Mario 3D Land. They resemble multicolored ladybugs and appear in red, yellow, blue, green, and pink. In the platforming games, Biddybuds simply walk along the ground on a set path, though unlike the Goombas in the game, they do not chase the player when they are in sight. They make alternating high- and low-pitched sounds that can be heard if the player is near them. These sounds are typically to the rhythm of the song that is playing in the level.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario 3D Land
Biddybuds first appear in World 1-3. They mainly appear in groups of two to five and walk in a set pattern, often circular. Mario can defeat them with any type of attack. They also have a sub-species called Para-Biddybuds, which have wings and fly, similar to a Paragoomba. They are a common enemy, but not as common as Goombas are.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury
Biddybuds reappear in Super Mario 3D World and its Nintendo Switch port Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. They look and behave exactly like they do in Super Mario 3D Land, though they are less common than they were originally. They now appear in larger groups than in Super Mario 3D Land.
In the Bowser's Fury campaign of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Biddybuds with fur, tails, and cat ears appear in Lake Lapcat as enemies. These cat-like Biddybuds behave identically to their ordinary counterparts.
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
While Biddybuds themselves do not appear in Mario Kart 8 and its Nintendo Switch port Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a kart called the Biddybuggy is based on their flying counterparts.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Biddybuds reappear as enemies in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and its Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS ports, where they act the same as they did in previous games.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Biddybuds reappear in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam as enemies. They appear in Sunbeam Plains and later Mount Brrr. They always battle in stacks. Biddybuds can attack by walking into one of the Mario Bros. in a straight line, or they can attack by walking in a stack, occasionally stumbling, causing them to slow down briefly. If they are jumped on while walking in a stack, every Biddybud in the stack will take damage. If the player uses Dropchopper or Cannonball Chuck, the entire stack of Biddybuds will all take damage.
Mario Tennis Aces
Biddybuds reappear in Mario Tennis Aces as nonplayable characters in the game's Adventure Mode, as spectators in the Piranha Plant Forest court.
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Biddybuds appear in Mario Golf: Super Rush where they act as obstacles in Wildweather Woods. In Speed Golf, they will slow players down when bumped into but can also be jumped on to gain coins.
