'''King Calamari''' is a giant [[Blooper]], and a minor boss encountered in ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]''. This word is '''Pearls''', and after Mario works it out, King Calamari allows Mario in the treasure room, where he is battled as a boss. Unlike normal squids, King Calamari has eight tentacles rather than ten. There are various logs throughout the ship referring to the squid and the calamity it caused. ==Trivia==
==Trivia==
*King Calamari's name is derived from "calamari", a term for edible, fried squids. "Calamari" (from which the food calamari's name is derived) is also the word for "squid" in Spanish, Greek, and Italian, making it an indirect namesake; however, King Calamari was most likely named after the food term.
*In the remake, the HP values for King Calamari's tentacles have been switched.
*King Calamari's eight tentacles and jar-like home may mean he is an octopus, rather than a squid.
*In the remake, the skull patterns on King Calamari's pot have been replaced with gems.

King Calamari, Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch)

King Calamari is a giant Blooper, and a minor boss encountered in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. It sank Johnny's ship (as chronicled in various logs found throughout the vessel) and was locked in the treasure cellar. Mario has to work out a six-letter word before he can enter the treasure cellar using clues provided in various rooms of the ship. After Mario learns the word, King Calamari allows him in the treasure cellar to battle.

After defeating King Calamari, Mario and his allies gain access to the lower section of the Sunken Ship.

Battle[edit]

When the battle starts, the player encounters three tentacles in each of the first two sequences; the tentacles attack by either slamming a party member or throwing one high into the air. The latter attack does not reduce a party member's HP, but it induces the Fear status effect regardless of immunity. The last sequence is fought against King Calamari's main body and two other tentacles. Even if King Calamari is defeated, the remaining tentacles need to be destroyed to finish the battle.

In battle, King Calamari can use Ink Blast, Sand Storm and Venom Drool.
