The Bolt is a magic attack used by many enemies and bosses in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. The attack consists of a single bolt of blue lightning that strikes a single character. In the original, as it was a magic attack, it could not be blocked by timing, though as Bolt is elemental, it could be stopped by elemental immunity from equipment such as the Safety Ring.

In the remake, Bolt can be blocked; the block is done right as the bolt generates to hit the target immediately, which can be tricky to manage and thereby makes Bolt a notable threat to the player's Chain and Ally Buffs. Knowing when to block is generally accomplished by working off of the caster's own tells. The known list of when to block is as follows:

  • Boo: at the end of his scary face
  • Bowyer: when his finger flick is done
  • Lakitu: when his arms are fully thrust forward
  • Orb User: at the end of the orb's flashing
  • Snifster/Apprentice: as his right arm is forward during his arm dancing
  • Pulsar: as the mini-circle's spin slows down to end
  • Leuko: upon the second moving up of his tentacles
  • Octovader: at the end of an abrupt turn toward his target
  • Gassox: when his mouth opens
  • Mallow Clone: right at the end of his spinning movement for casting
