Axem Black is one of the Smithy Gang's Axem Rangers who appears in the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and the remake. Like all of the other Axem Rangers, he fights with a small axe. Additionally, Axem Black commonly utilizes bombs in combat and, due to his high speed, can attack twice in one turn or occasionally three times, like Geno.

After an Axem Ranger is defeated by Mario and his allies, they give an excuse for not being able to fight anymore. Axem Black's excuse is: "I broke my shades!" Axem Red's reply is: "Serves you right!"

Like the other members, Axem Black is later encountered as a mass-produced Machine Made clone in the Weapon World. Unlike the others', his clone is identical due to already being monochrome. Despite being modeled after Axem Black, he apparently was not actually a member of the Machine Made Axem Rangers yet in the SNES version, as can be implied by his thought. The remake clarifies that they had not actually decided the members of the new Axem Rangers team yet. He is also the only Machine Made Axem copy whose thought did not reference either their excuses for quitting or, in the case of Red, their pre-battle introduction.

Trivia

• In Black's Legend of the Seven Stars thought, he berates one of the other Rangers for having poor timing (explicitly mentioning Axem Red in the Switch remake). In at least the English version, it also has a grammar mistake by using "You're" instead of "Your."
