Boo Buddy Blocks first appear in Super Mario World. When looked at, a Boo Buddy Block seems to be a normal, gray block but with a unique stone design. When Mario or Luigi takes his eyes off it, however, it slowly begins to transform into a Boo and follow him. When the Boo Buddy Block is in its block form, it can be jumped off. Doing this is required to clear a certain Ghost House, the Choco-Ghost House, as Mario or Luigi must lure several Boo Buddy Blocks into the proper positions so that he can jump off them to reach the high ledge where the exit door awaits.

Like normal Boos in this game, they do not care if Mario looks at them, instead turning into Ghost Blocks only if sprayed with F.L.U.D.D.'s water or a Yoshi's juice. Ghost Blocks look very similar to Yoshi Platforms, though their eyes can still be seen on one side. After a lengthy period of time, they revert to their normal form. When not a block, they meanderingly patrol a small area in a similar manner to the Boos in the game, though in a less wide range. They appear solely in Hotel Delfino, specifically around the central pillar in The Hotel Lobby's Secret and over a large pool-like bathtub under an air vent in Mysterious Hotel Delfino.

Block Boos,[1][2][3][4] also named Boo Blocks[1][5] (originally known as Boo Buddy Blocks),[6] are enemies introduced in Super Mario World. They are Boos that can turn into a block called a Ghost Block.[6]

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

A Boo Buddy Block

Boo Buddy Blocks are enemies in Super Mario World. When looked at, they take the form of stone-like blocks, which are usable as platforms, but behave like Boos otherwise, chasing the player character whenever he looks away. A Boo Buddy Block is used to reach the exit of Choco-Ghost House.[7][8]

Super Mario Sunshine[edit]

Pink Boos[9] are enemies in Super Mario Sunshine. Their recolor makes them look like Red Boos. They are found around the central pillar of Hotel Delfino in "The Hotel Lobby's Secret" and near a bathtub in "Mysterious Hotel Delfino." Pink Boos are unaffected when looked at, like Boos, and move similarly but with less range. Pink Boos become Ghost Blocks, which look like Yoshi Platforms with a visible pair of eyes, temporarily by spraying either water from FLUDD or juice from Yoshi at them.

Yoshi's Story[edit]

Boo Blocks are enemies in Yoshi's Story. They look different from Boos, and their Ghost Block form is now depicted with pink and white stripes. They are found only in Ghost Castle.

Super Mario World: Mario to Yoshi no Bōken Land[edit]

This section is a stub. Please consider expanding it to include any missing information. Specifics: At which point of the OVA do they appear? Also specify its role.

In Super Mario World: Mario to Yoshi no Bōken Land, when the Boos turn into Ghost Blocks, they still show their faces, unlike in the original game, where their faces disappear.
