Escalators[1] are platforms in some of the castles of Super Mario World. They automatically move Mario or Luigi along with it when they stand on it like a Conveyor Belt, but it is on a sloped surface and can be slid down.
Each escalator conveys the player in a different direction. The escalator in the first room of #2 Morton's Castle conveys the player towards the top right, the one in the crushing ceiling room of #4 Ludwig's Castle conveys the player towards the bottom left, and the one found in the second room of #7 Larry's Castle conveys the player towards the bottom right. Each end of an escalator has a motor on it, similar to the endpoints of rails.
