The battle is always random, but the heroes must defeat all of the enemies to win. There are a lot of enemies. The battlefield also varies in size and shape, and it could be large and open, or a narrow path. There can be barrels containing various Super Effects scattered around the battlefield. Almost every enemy can appear in the battle, although not all at once. The only enemies that cannot appear are Riptides and Spellraisers. The enemies match the player's level, and can reach higher than the limit of Barrendale Mesa. After all of the enemies are defeated, the battle is won.
The enemies that appear have resistances that work well with other enemies in the same battle (for example, Oozers, Squashers, and Depleters can appear in the same battle).

Notes[edit]
If the battlefield layout is the right form, one pipe will cause enemies to be unable to move after going up it. They will not do anything for about ten seconds, and then end their turn, or attack if a hero is within range. If a group of Goombas go through said pipe, they will all glitch into each other, and their turn will never end. The player must restart the battle if this happens. It is unknown if this glitch is patched yet.
