Tough Egg to Crack is a battle in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the second of four tutorial battles in the game's prologue, taking place on the Darkmess Manta's back. It is fought with Mario and Rabbid Peach. The Heroes' weapons have become disabled due to a malevolent energy and the Heroes are forced to defeat their enemies by other means. This battle introduces the Dash and Team Jump functions. Clearing this battle triggers a cutscene and leads to the next tutorial battle, Shot in the Darkmess. This battle does not reward XP, Coins or Star Bits.

Layout[edit]

The battle consists of a wide arc-shaped platform with a Darkmess Eggs near the end of each, with a Darkmess Eye close to it. This platform is separated by a gap to another platform with another Darkmess Eye and an Darkmess Egg, accessible only with a Team Jump. At the curve of this platform are three sets of two destroyable blocks. A small platform with a single Stooge is behind these blocks.

Battle[edit]

The player must destroy all three Darkmess Eyes by Dashing into the Darkmess Eggs, picking them up, and throwing them at the Darkmess Eyes. The Darkmess Eyes closest to each Hero have tendrils blocking the path to the center of the stage that can only be removed by destroying them. The Darkmess Eye in the center can be reached when a Hero performs a Team Jump with the other to cross the gap to the other platform.
