Template:Articleabout Template:Species-infobox The Fire Bros. are a rare variety of Hammer Bro. Instead of throwing Hammers like their relatives, Fire Bros. have the unique ability to spit Fireballs. These fireballs move very fast and are very hard to dodge. Ice Bros. can be considered their polar opposites, as an Ice Flower is the polar opposite of a Fire Flower.
History
Super Mario Bros. series
Super Mario Bros. 3
Fire Bros. first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. In fact, only three appear in the entire game. Two appear in the Desert Land, after breaking a boulder in the desert with a hammer, while one appears in the first Hand Trap level of Dark Land.
New Super Mario Bros. Series
New Super Mario Bros.
Fire Bros. reappeared in New Super Mario Bros.. However, they were only found in World 8-7, right after the checkpoint. They still use the same attacks they had in the previous games they appeared in.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Fire Bros. reappeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, having the same attacks from New Super Mario Bros.. They were fairly common in this game. Strangely, they were more common than the Hammer Bros., despite being quite rare in the past games. They appeared in Worlds 2-3, 3-4, 6-6, and 9-7. A single Fire Bro. was near the end of level 2-3. In World 6-6 however, there was a trio of them guarding both the normal exit and the alternate cannon exit. In their last appearance in World 9-7, they appeared as a duo on platforms near the end of the level. They are mostly teamed up with Venus Fire Traps. In this game, Fire Bros. throw their fireballs with their hand, just like Fire Mario, rather than spitting them.
Super Mario cartoons
Fire Bros. made two rare appearances in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, where they retained their status as soldiers in Bowser's army.
In the episode "Reptiles in the Rose Garden" two Fire Bros. and two Boomerang Bros. had been ordered to guard Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad while they were held captive in Castle Koopa's dungeon. However, Princess Toadstool fooled the two pairs into fighting each other so that she and her friends could escape.
In "The Venice Menace", Kootie Pie Koopa briefly used a miniature Fire Bro. as a welding torch, which shot a stream of fire rather than their usual fireballs.
Mario Baseball Series
Mario Superstar Baseball
Fire Bro. was made playable for the first time in Mario Superstar Baseball, as a color swap for the unlockable Hammer Bro. character.
The Fire Bro. also appeared on Bowser's team in challenge mode. He had slightly less speed than his counterparts, and used an everyday bat rather than the usual hammer or boomerang of the Hammer Bro. and Boomerang Bro. characters. Starting with this game, the Fire Bro.'s appearance has been developed to be wearing a red helmet and a red shell.
Mario Super Sluggers
The Fire Bro. later appeared in Mario Super Sluggers with the same bat as in Mario Superstar Baseball. His fielding abilities have improved, and he has the best batting abilities among his counterparts.
Paper Mario series
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Flare, a Fire Bro., is a fighter in the Glitz Pit alongside Bamma and Hamma Jamma. He is the only Fire Bro. to appear in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Like Fire Bros. in earlier appearances, he spits fireballs as a main attack. However, these fireballs not only damage opponents, but may also cause them to catch fire as well.
Super Paper Mario
Fire Bros. make an appearance in the latest of the Paper Mario series, Super Paper Mario. They are encountered in Castle Bleck, and act just as they did in Super Mario Bros. 3. Some Fire Bros. also have the unique ability to flip between dimensions.

Trivia
- According to Tippi, Fire Bros. start up the grill with their fire-spitting abilities at a Koopa barbecue.
- In Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World Luigi spits fireballs like a Fire Bro. rather than from his finger like Mario does.
