A Red Egg from Yoshi's Island DS
A Red Egg.

A Red Egg[1][2] is a red Yoshi Egg first found in Super Mario World. It has an orange tint to its shell. The egg hatches into a Baby Red Yoshi. When adult Red Yoshis lay eggs, the egg is usually a Red Egg.

Red Eggs also play an important role in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and later Yoshi's Island DS. If a Green Egg had recoiled many times off a wall, it would turn into a Red Egg. However, if it recoiled too much, the egg would be useless and fall off-screen. Red Eggs could also be obtained from red Egg Blocks, though unlike the green Egg Block, Yoshi only gets one egg. When Red Eggs hit an enemy, two Stars would appear where the impact was.
