The Starshade Bros. (General Starshade and Sergeant Starshade) are two Toads that appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. General Starshade is red, and Sergeant Starshade is green. They both wear sunglasses and have big grins. Unlike most Toads, they are tall in appearance and have visible (and prominent) noses. They are stationed in Beanbean Borderland. They, along with the Border Bros., form the border patrol for the Beanbean Kingdom and Mushroom Kingdom. They take their job very seriously. The Starshade Bros. appear from star-shaped hatches in the ground.

The Starshade Bros. are alarmed when the Koopa Cruiser explodes in the air, so they head out to investigate. They do not recognize Mario and Luigi at first, but once they do, they are starstruck and resolve to help Mario and Luigi out as much as possible. The Starshade Bros. teach Mario and Luigi about Bros. Actions, and instruct them on how to use the High Jump and Spin Jump. They also explain Bros. Attacks, with Splash Bros. as the example.

After the Mario Bros. defeat Tolstar while Bowser is stuck in a cannon, Bowser's griping annoys Sergeant Starshade, who appears and sets off the cannon, knocking Bowser into Tolstar and causing him to lose his memory.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, the Starshade Bros.' role is largely the same. The tutorial for Bros. Attacks is more open, so the player also uses Bounce Bros. Sergeant Starshade is revealed not to be responsible for Bowser's amnesia (as Captain Goomba ended up doing that accidentally while trying to jump off a waterfall). The Starshade Bros. are the only Toads in the game to still use designs significantly different from the default Toad design. However, Sergeant Starshade now wears a blue vest with colored shorts, like General Starshade.
