Blame It on the Crane is a 1-vs-3 minigame in Mario Party 4, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Overview[edit]
The minigame takes place on a wheel platform, to the right of which is a crane. On the wheel platform are six gashapon-like capsules, each having a red Shy Guy in Mario Party 4, a Koopa Troopa in Mario Party: The Top 100, and a yellow Shy Guy in Super Mario Party Jamboree due to red Shy Guy being a player character. The team players are also in capsules, each corresponding to their player color.
In the opening, the crane lowers to grab a capsule with a non-player character but fails to retrieve it. A zoomed out view of the area is shown as the crane goes upward and the platform begins to spin counterclockwise.
The solo player must use the crane to try and catch each team player as they approach the crane's shadow. Catching a different capsule only results in the player losing a few seconds. To win, the solo player must catch every team player. Meanwhile, the team players must move around in their capsules, attempting to avoid the crane, and if at least one is left by the end, their side wins. The wheel platform stops moving once time is up.
In the ending of the Mario Party 4 version, if the solo player wins, they jump out of the crane to do their winning animation in the center of the wheel. If the team wins, any remaining players do their winning poses after their capsules disappear, but the solo player does not do their losing pose.
The ending in Super Mario Party Jamboree was changed to all players doing their respective win and loss animations at the back of the wheel platform.
