Gameplay from Mario Party Superstars

The minigame is selectable in Mario Party 4 by choosing the Ztar in the Extra Room, which can be done once every other Extra Room minigame has been unlocked. Its equivalent in Mario Party 5 is titled Beach Volleyball.

Both players on each team compete in a beach volleyball match. Besides the main playable cast, the Mario Party 4 version also has some additional player characters in Free Mode, including Toad, Koopa Troopa, Shy Guy, Boo, Bowser, and Koopa Kid. The Battle Mode features six teams to compete against, each during a separate match. Completing Battle Mode also unlocks Free Mode, supporting up to four players, as well as a birthday cake in the Present Room. The side that earns five points first wins. In later versions of the minigame, the setting can also be changed to either 7, 14, or 21 points.
