Not to be confused with Spin Drill or Drill Mario.

The Drill Spin is a move introduced in New Super Mario Bros. When used, the player character moves in a downward, drill-like spin, allowing them to break multiple Brick Blocks in a row, as well as making their descent much faster while restricting horizontal movement.

History[edit]

New Super Mario Bros.[edit]

The Drill Spin is a move in New Super Mario Bros. It can be performed by Mario or Luigi while he is midair, but only after he jumps off a Spin Block. The player can press and hold +Control Pad down for the player character to perform a Drill Spin, though they cannot stop it until they touch the ground.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

The Drill Spin is a move in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It can be performed by characters in their Propeller forms when +Control Pad down is pressed. Unlike in the previous game, the Drill Spin from the Propeller Mushroom lasts only as long as +Control Pad down is held; the Drill Spin can be stopped and started several times in midair.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]

The Drill Spin is a move in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. It retains the same mechanics as in the previous game.

Super Mario Maker / Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS[edit]

The Drill Spin is a move in Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS. It can be performed in the New Super Mario Bros. U style as Propeller Mario.

Super Mario Odyssey[edit]

The Drill Spin, noted in game as Quick Drop, is a move in Super Mario Odyssey. It is used when Mario ground-pounds after performing a Spin Jump. Mario cannot move while plummeting, but can return to the Spin Jump state by releasing the ZL Button or ZR Button button. Mario can Spin Throw in this state, exiting out of the Spin Jump, but cannot Dive.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

The Drill Spin is a move in Super Mario Maker 2. It retains its behavior from its predecessor. As of version 3.0.0, a Drill Spin can also be performed while using a Propeller Box in the Super Mario 3D World style.
