The minigame opens with a scene of [[Lakitu]] placing the red flag in the hole in ''Mario Party 3'', though the flag falls in randomly in later versions.


In ''Mario Party: The Top 100'' and ''Mario Party Superstars'', the flag falls into the hole from the sky. After the camera pans to all the players, one is randomly chosen to go first.
Players try to launch the ball as close to the hole on an island as they can. The turn order is decided randomly, but in Battle Royale mode, players take turns based on their current positions, from first to fourth place, while Mini-Game mode does it by player order. If a chip-in occurs, that player wins automatically, though other players are still able to perform one in their following turn. Usually, whoever launches the ball the closest wins. Both versions choose a random player to go first, followed by the others in player order. If one gets a hole-in-one, fireworks are shown as "Hole in One" displays onscreen, not Lakitu like in ''Mario Party 3''. Every player's distances can be seen throughout, but there are no longer markers for where each one's ball has landed.
The players have to make a shot to the hole on the hill as accurately as possible within the time limit. If a player chips into the hole, that player automatically wins. If this happens, Lakitu holds a sign saying "NICE!" Other players can chip in and win too. If no players chip in, the player whose ball is closest to the hole wins. If two or more players tie with the condition of no players chipping in, all of those players will still win. If the ball falls off the island, the player that made the shot immediately loses as Lakitu appears while holding a sign saying "MISS."

Chip-Shot Challenge (originally formatted as Chip Shot Challenge) is a 4-Player minigame in Mario Party 3, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars.

The minigame opens with a scene of Lakitu placing the red flag in the hole in Mario Party 3, though the flag falls in randomly in later versions.

Players try to launch the ball as close to the hole on an island as they can. The turn order is decided randomly, but in Battle Royale mode, players take turns based on their current positions, from first to fourth place, while Mini-Game mode does it by player order. If a chip-in occurs, that player wins automatically, though other players are still able to perform one in their following turn. Usually, whoever launches the ball the closest wins. If none of the characters chip in and two or more players tie for the closest distance to the hole, it is a draw.[1] Any player who launches a ball off of the island is disqualified, with Lakitu holding a "MISS" sign. If a player gets a chip-in, Lakitu is seen with a sign reading "NICE!".
