Game Guy's Magic Boxes is a Game Guy minigame in Mario Party 3.
Overview[edit]
A treasure chest with Toad and another with Baby Bowser are hidden behind curtains. The chests may switch around, without the player knowing. If the player chooses the chest with Baby Bowser, they lose all of their coins. If the one with Toad is selected, the player can either end with the coins they have earned or risk another turn for the possibility of having their total multiplied by four. If the player wins a second time, they can decide to have a third turn and have their total multiplied by eight if they win again.
Expected value[edit]
Let B be the number of coins bet. At each point, the player has a 1/2 chance of doubling their coins and a 1/2 chance of losing them. Thus, at each point, this is the EV: 1/2 × 2B = B

Notes[edit]
- If a player has 500 coins, they are risking that many for 499 coins, because the game allows for only up to 999 coins and causes a negative expected value of 0.5 coins. From this, higher numbers of coins results in less profit from winning.
