Introduction
Overview
The minigame takes place in a room where the walls are decorated with Warp Pipes of different heights in front of a sky background represented by white and blue bricks, with a large Mushroom icon on the floor, referencing the reflection of the minigame. The four players fall down onto the floor from the ceiling, each one positioned near a corner of the room, and then nine Brick Blocks appear in the room from a puff of smoke. The minigame then starts.

Gameplay
During gameplay, players try to find the Brick Block containing the Mushroom (replaced by a Mega Mushroom in later versions) before time runs out. Players can stun their opponents temporarily with attacks or by jumping on them as they try to search for the Mushroom. Once the Mushroom is revealed from the correct Brick Block, players try to get the Mushroom to grow large. The player made larger by the Mushroom can send other players out of the minigame by touching them. The large player is restricted to moving only a single direction before bumping into a wall. If the large player has not defeated every opponent in one try, the minigame repeats with a different set of Brick Blocks. The last player remaining wins. If at least two players remain before time runs out, it is a draw, but not in later versions of the minigame.
The players' objective is to find the Mushroom (Mario Party 3) / Mega Mushroom (The Top 100 and Superstars) inside one of the Brick Blocks by simply punching them within the time limit of 60 seconds. Players can move around the room and use their jumps and attacks to stun other players from moving continuously. When a player finds the Mushroom after breaking the Brick Block containing it, the rest of the floating blocks disappear, making the other players react by either attempting to steal the Mushroom or running away from the player taking advantage of this power-up. When the Mushroom is not grabbed yet, the item simply moves slowly around the room until a player grabs the power-up. When one of the players successfully obtains the Mushroom, the player grows big within about two seconds. When the player goes in the desired direction, the player runs in one direction until they hit a wall, stalling them for a moment. The giant player can eliminate other players by running into them. When the player shrinks to normal, the nine Brick Blocks appear with the Mushroom hidden in a different block, and the process repeats. The remaining player in the room wins the minigame. In Mario Party 3, if two or more players remain in the minigame when the time runs out, it is considered a draw.

On a side note, in The Top 100 and Superstars, the Mega Mushroom immediately appears when its block is hit, and it takes less than half as long for a player to grow.

Overview[edit]

Mush Pit in Mario Party Superstars
Gameplay from Mario Party Superstars

The minigame opens with a sequence of the players entering the room from the ceiling and then Brick Blocks from a puff of smoke.

The minigame title is a play on "mosh pit."
