Moo Moo Meadows is the second race course of the Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart Wii. It also reappears as a classic course in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where it is the first course of the Shell Cup. The course is inspired by and serves as a successor to the Mario Kart 64 track Moo Moo Farm. An arrangement of Moo Moo Meadows' music is heard in the second half of the credits music along with Luigi Circuit/Mario Circuit and Maple Treeway.
In Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, a similar course known as Windmill Meadows, which reuses the Mario Kart 8 version of its music, appears starting from the version 2.0.0 update.
Mario Kart Wii[edit]
Course layout[edit]
The course is located in a rural area of green hills, with a river near a farm, and a few trees surrounding the track. The scenery around the track includes a milk cart, a barn, a windmill, a river with a bridge and some dirty paths leading to outside the meadows. At the start of the track, there is a brief straightaway and then a gradual turn left, passing a farm with a silo. About halfway through this turn is the first set of Item Boxes. Then, there is another turn to the left leading the racer into the meadows where several Moo Moos are grazing. On the first lap, they stay to the side of the road, but on the other laps, the Moo Moos cross the road, serving as obstacles for the players. If one happens to run into a Moo Moo, they flip over and lose their item. There are two herds of Moo Moos - one in the middle area of the meadow, and the other one in the turn exiting it.
After racers serpentine through the meadow, they encounter the second item set followed by a slight right turn and a simple blue ramp. After the ramp, there is a left turn where racers will encounter the first of several Monty Moles. The Monty Moles will burrow around the track, leaving behind dirt trails that slow racers down, before stopping and trying to pop out of the ground to hit racers. After the left turn, racers enter an open area with multiple routes; several small grassy hills lie throughout the track and racers must weave around them, though there is a dash panel ramp that allows them to jump over the first hill. The last item set can be found here; there are Item Boxes both floating in midair above the hill, and to the left and right of the hill. Several more Monty Moles are also found around the hills. After this section, there is a slight left turn and racers then reach the finish line.
Moo Moo Meadows is one of two courses in Mario Kart Wii, along with SNES Ghost Valley 2, that did not have an online tournament take place on it.
Shortcuts[edit]
The first notable set of shortcuts can be found in the meadow. Two of the turns can be cut off, each only requiring a single Mushroom, but if the player has other speed items they can cross the entire meadow without needing to stay on the road. This can be especially beneficial when the Moo Moos are crossing the road itself.
The second notable set of shortcuts can be found in the final section with the grassy hills; the player can use speed items to drive over the hills to save time and avoid being slowed down by the Monty Moles.
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
Moo Moo Meadows makes its classic course debut in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe as the first course of the Shell Cup. The course is also available in the Battle Mode of the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8. Its layout is mostly retained but has several notable changes. The track as a whole is more varied and uneven in elevation. At the turn after the simple ramp, the outside of the turn has been elevated and ends in a glide ramp. The hills at the ending section have also significantly been reduced in size, expanding the main track as a result. The Monty Moles no longer leave behind trails that slow down racers; instead, the trails can be used as ramps for racers to perform tricks off of. Lastly, the first set of Item Boxes now appears at the start of the first turn, the last item set is removed altogether, and Double Item Boxes appear at the second item set in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The course also has received several visual and auditory changes. The time of day has changed to morning, and a rooster can be heard crowing at the start of the course intro. There are now more farms, variations of Moo Moos, and windmills. The once-bobbing trees are now stationary trees. The start/finish line banner is now similar to the banner on Thwomp Ruins and uses the modern Mario Kart logo. The music is now orchestrated, using more fiddle in the theme.
Based on a city map that can be found in Super Bell Subway, Moo Moo Meadows is shown to be located on the outskirts area of the city that contains both Toad Harbor and Wii Wario's Gold Mine, as well as the same city that N64 Rainbow Road hovers over.[1]
Other appearances[edit]
Moo Moo Meadows appears in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games as the location of the Dream Equestrian event, though the event uses a track with a completely different layout. Players must travel through the track carrying a wagon full of seven Yoshi eggs and reach the finish line. The course features Kamek, who tries to throws obstacles in the players' path, and a Chain Chomp that appears before the conclusion of the event.
A badge mentions Moo Moo Meadows directly in Mario Kart Tour. The badge depicts a logo for Moo Moo Meadows Milk, and was added in the 2023 Mii Tour. The Moo Moo Meadows logo also appears in GCN Waluigi Stadium.

Mario Kart 8 Original Soundtrack liner notes[edit]
The original track just featured a live recording of a recorder, but for this title, we reworked that part, adding violin and guitar. The musicians arranged this themselves, which gave a really nice live feel to the proceedings. We hope this track will bring back memories of the faces of those lovable cows!
