Mario Circuit 4 is the fifth and last course of the Star Cup in Super Mario Kart. It was subsequently reused in Mario Kart: Super Circuit as the third track of the Extra Star Cup. It is a tarmac circuit set in a grassland. This is the first of two Mario Circuits from the series in the Star Cup; the second is the DS version.

Course layout[edit]

Luigi racing on the course.

The longest of the Mario Circuits, it is still a straightforward course of normal road, with pipes and oil slicks as the only hazards. The overall layout is very similar to that of Mario Circuit 3, but more difficult and with left and right reversed. Additionally, Feathers are disabled for this track to prevent racers from jumping over the walls and thus saving a lot of time. The course begins with a U-turn to the left followed by a right turn and the only set of ? Panels. There is then a sharp right turn followed by a sharp left turn, and then two 90° turns to the left. A straightaway then leads racers into a sharp U-turn to the right followed by a brief straight and a sharp U-turn to the left. After a slight right turn and a left turn, racers reach the finish line.

Shortcuts[edit]

A notable shortcut can be found after the second left U-turn. Similar to the shortcut found in Mario Circuit 3, the player can use a Mushroom or Star to drive through the off-road to the right of the track, passing through a gap in the wall and cutting off the last right turn.

Mario Circuit 4 reappeared in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and is the third track of the Extra Star Cup. It uses the background from Peach Circuit. The pipe and oil slick hazards were removed from the track and an item box can be found next to the shortcut.

Trivia[edit]

  • This is the only Mario Circuit course in Super Mario Kart that has yet to appear as a classic course in a later Mario Kart game other than Mario Kart: Super Circuit.
    • As such, it is also the only Mario Circuit course in Super Mario Kart that has not appeared in Mario Kart Tour.
  • During development, this course was intended to be the final course of the Special Cup. It would've been the only Mario Circuit course to date to appear in the Special Cup.
