Ski
- This article is about the objects in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. For the minigame in Game & Wario, see Ski (minigame).
Skis appear in the Super Mario franchise as a method of traversing certain landscapes, especially snowy or icy territory.
History[edit]
Yoshi's Island series[edit]
Skis are a power-up in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, its remake, and Yoshi's Island DS that change Yoshi into Ski Yoshi. They appear mainly in snow-themed areas. Unlike most other vehicles, skis are from entering certain huts. Skis only cause Yoshi to move straightforward, though the player can press to have him jump. If Yoshi does not avoid an obstacle, he rolls with the skis uncontrollably for a couple of seconds, becoming a snowball. A level can have as many a three skiing sections.
They first appear in Level 5-3, Danger - Icy Conditions Ahead, in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, as well as Level 5-Extra Kamek's Revenge. In Yoshi's Island DS, they appear in Level 4-7 Teeth-Chattering Chill Zone, and 3-Secret A Light in the Dark.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble![edit]
Skis are a pair of items in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, with one being held by Squirt at Cotton Top Cove and the other by KAOS at Mekanos. With both skis, Funky Kong is able to construct the Turbo Ski, opening access to more areas around the map than even the Hover Craft can provide.
