Switch Barrels[1] are an uncommon type of barrel in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Each of them has an S (which likely stands for "Switch") printed on it. A Switch Barrel displays either a regular barrel, a TNT Barrel, or a Steel Barrel, and whichever type is shown is the one shot out by the Bazukas. If Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong jump at a Switch Barrel, it changes to another barrel, changing what the Bazuka shoots out accordingly. The Kongs can revert to the initial barrel by jumping at the Switch Barrel again.
Switch Barrels appear in only three levels. In Blazing Bazukas, Switch Barrels appear throughout. The Bazukas here usually fire TNT Barrels, and the Switch Barrels can change them to regular barrels, a requirement for getting across the area. Blazing Bazukas has one Switch Barrel in particular that can toggle between a barrel and Steel Barrel, and having it set to the latter is a requirement for the Bazuka to shoot at the Koin, allowing for the DK Coin to be obtained. In Koindozer Klamber, there is only one Switch Barrel, and like in Blazing Bazukas, it alternates between barrels and Steel Barrels, again necessary for defeating the Koin. Lastly, in Criss Kross Cliffs, Switch Barrels are the main focus, and all of them alternate between Steel Barrels and TNT Barrels. The Steel Barrels are used to bounce Dixie and Kiddy higher into the level. However, because a red Buzz often blocks the path, the Switch Barrel has to be used to change the Steel Barrels to TNT Barrels, the latter of which can defeat the Buzz. Once it is defeated, Dixie and Kiddy can use the Switch Barrel to revert to Steel Barrels and continue onward.
