- —Lubba, Super Mario Galaxy 2
The Bee Mushroom is a yellow mushroom with brown stripes on the cap which acts as a power-up in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. The mushroom is first found in the Honeyhive Galaxy after collecting a ? Coin. It is also found in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in a few other galaxies. Once Mario or Luigi collect the Power-up they will become Bee Mario or Bee Luigi and will then be able to fly for a limited time, climb honey walls and cling to the Queen Bee. Bee Mario is also uniquely capable of standing on flowers and clouds. By collecting a coin, Bee Mario and Bee Luigi can fly a little longer. If Mario or Luigi touch water when they have on their Bee Suit, they will go back to their normal form. It also appears in the Honeyclimb Galaxy, Gold Leaf Galaxy, Sea Slide Galaxy and Sand Spiral Galaxy. In Super Mario Galaxy 2, it appears in the Honeybloom Galaxy and the Honeyhop Galaxy. Also, once Mario or Luigi gets 120 Power Stars, a Bee Mushroom will appear in the Tall Trunk Galaxy in the ending credits.
History[edit]
Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
The Bee Mushroom makes its debut in Super Mario Galaxy, first appearing in first mission of the Honeyhive Galaxy, Bee Mario Takes Flight, which teaches the player the core mechanics of the power-up. It also appears in Big Bad Bugaboom where it is used in the battle against Bugaboom. It returns in the sole mission of the Honeyclimb Galaxy, Scaling the Sticky Wall, where it is used to climb a series of honey walls. It also returns in the first three missions of the Gold Leaf Galaxy. In Star Bunnies on the Hunt, it is used to retrieve some blue Star Chips for some Star Bunnies. In Cataquack to the Skies, it is necessary to cross some flower platforms to collect the Power Star. Finally, in When It Rains, It Pours, it is used in the fight against the Undergrunt Gunner. It returns in the Sea Slide Galaxy, where it first appears in The Silver Stars of Sea Slide and is used to collect some of the Silver Stars. It is also used in Purple Coins by the Seaside, where it is necessary to collect Purple Coins on clouds and in high places. Its final appearance is in the Sand Spiral Galaxy in the mission Choosing a Favorite Snack, where either it or the Boo Mushroom can be used to navigate a hazardous corridor. In the level, the Toad standing next proclaims, "These yellow mushrooms are super delicious", though quips that he did not get this opinion from eating them all day. When the Bee Mushroom is picked up, the Toad says "You're the best, Mario/Luigi!".
Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
The Bee Mushroom returns in Super Mario Galaxy 2, appearing in the Honeybloom Galaxy in the mission Bumble Beginnings where it is required to traverse certain platforms. It is also required for both of the galaxy's Green Stars. It returns in the Honeyhop Galaxy in the mission The Sweetest Silver Stars, where it is used to collect some of the Silver Stars. Completing the mission will cause a Bee Mushroom to appear in the Engine Room of Starship Mario. It is required for both Green Stars in this galaxy as well.
After 120 Power Stars are collected, a Bee Mushroom appears in the credits in the Tall Trunk Galaxy portion.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]
While the Bee Mushroom does not appear in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is mentioned in the trophy description for Bee Mario.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle[edit]
In Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a tube of honey with a Bee Mushroom design on it appears in the level Unlikely Heroes and near Peach's Castle.
