First appearance Super Paper Mario (2007)
Variant of Koopatrol

Dark Koopatrols are enemies from Super Paper Mario. Unlike the uniquely-colored Dark Koopatrols encountered in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, these enemies are pitch-black replicas of normal Koopatrols. They are the strongest Koopa Troopas in the game, and appear solely in the Flopside Pit of 100 Trials, along with the other dark enemies.

In the Japanese and North American versions of the game, the Dark Koopatrol's Catch Card states stomping on them will turn them into dark shells, which is only possible if the player uses Carrie because their spiked helmets protect them from being jumped on like normal Koopatrols. Because of this, the line was changed to "Stomps won't work, but hey, they're not flame retardant..." in the PAL version.
