Template:Articleabout A Life Mushroom is an item which first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy, where they work differently. When Mario collects one, his Health Meter will increase from 3 to 6. However, after he takes damage three times without healing, his maximum life energy will go back to just 3.
They reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and behave just as they did in the prequel. However, they appear to be much more common in this game than in the first. Unlike in Super Mario Galaxy, the player will receive a 1-Up when they collect another Life Mushroom. However, this will only work if all six sections of the Health Meter are filled when Mario collects the second Life Mushroom. If they are not, then the second Life Mushroom will only refill the Health Meter back to six, instead of giving Mario a 1-Up. This feature was not included in the previous game.
In either game, Life Mushrooms can be purchased from Luma Shops for 30 Star Bits on various planetoids. They will usually be positioned on the last planet or planetoid that is encountered before a large Boss battle.
