Bowser Spaces (formatted as Bowser spaces in Mario Party 5) are a recurring type of space in the Mario Party series. When a player lands on one, they cause Bowser to appear and cause a major negative or otherwise game-altering event for the player who landed on the space, but this event can directly affect other players as well. These events range from characters competing in minigames where losing carries the penalty of losing coins and Stars to shuffling all characters' positions, as well as merely stealing characters' coins and Stars with no provocation. Bowser Spaces tend to be fairly rare, with one to five on each board by default, but certain in-game events can often increase the number present. In all games that use the players' status panels to determine the type of minigame played, Bowser Spaces color the player's panel red, the same color as a Red Space.

In Super Mario Party, Bowser Spaces are replaced by Bad Luck Spaces, due to Bowser becoming a fully playable character for that game. In Super Mario Party Jamboree, they summon Impostor Bowser instead.

The Bowser Space events in Mario Party

In the first Mario Party, Bowser appears to the player who lands on the Bowser Space in the usual background used for meeting characters on the board and forces them to spin a roulette wheel to decide the event. The possible events are the following:

  • Coins for Bowser: Bowser takes 10–50 Coins from that player.
  • Bowser Balloon Burst: The four players play the minigame Balloon Burst. Afterward, everyone aside from the winner of the minigame loses Coins. If the minigame ends in a tie, everyone loses 10–50 Coins.13
  • Bowser's Face Lift: The four players play the minigame Face Lift. Afterward, players that score fewer than 90 points lose Coins. If all players achieve at least 90 points, Bowser steals up to 50 Coins from the player who landed on his space.1
  • Bowser's Tug o' War: The four players play the minigame Tug o' War, with the player that landed on the Bowser Space taking on the role of the player in the Bowser Suit. Afterward, the losing side loses Coins to Bowser, but if the minigame ends in a tie, everybody loses 10–50 Coins.123
  • Bash 'n' Cash: The four players play the minigame Bash 'n' Cash, with the player that landed on the Bowser Space taking on the role of the player in the Bowser Suit. Unlike normally, Coins knocked out of the player in the Bowser Suit disappear immediately and cannot be collected by the team players. If the player in the Bowser Suit does not lose any Coins during the minigame, Bowser takes 15 Coins from them.2
  • Bowser Revolution: Bowser takes everyone's Coins and splits them evenly among all the players.
  • Bowser's Chance Time: This is like the ordinary Chance Time, but it is rigged so that Bowser is always on the receiving end of the trade, and the other two blocks spin extremely quickly, making it more difficult to time. Unlike during normal Chance Time, Stars cannot be lost, and there are no bi-directional trades. If the player who gives Coins to Bowser does not have any, Bowser gives them 10 Coins. Additionally, the "CHANCE TIME" text that appears before the player gains control is formatted with a question mark.
  • 100 Star Present / 1000 Coin Present / Star Steal: These events' names are displayed in yellow text on the roulette wheel. The cursor cannot select any of these events; if one is highlighted, a different option is selected instead.

1 - The number of Coins taken ranges from 10 to 50, and it usually correlates with the current turn number.
2 - In the 1-vs.-3 minigames, whoever lands on the Bowser Space is always the solo player.
3 - If a tie occurs, everyone loses the same number of Coins. This is similar to Bowser's Coin Potluck from Mario Party 2 and Mario Party 3. However, if everybody wins, Bowser takes Coins from the player who triggered the Bowser Space.

If the player has at least one Star but no Coins, Bowser gives them 10 Coins in exchange for one Star.

If the player has no Coins or Stars, Bowser gives them 20 Coins.

Aesthetically, the player encounters Bowser in the same background used for other character encounters in Mario Party such as Toad, Boo, and Koopa.

Mario Party 2

In Mario Party 2, the minigame events from the previous game were removed, while four new events were added. They include the following:

  • Coins for Bowser: This event now displays the number of Coins given to Bowser in the event's title (as "10 Coins for Bowser," for example). It has become the most common event, always appearing twice on the roulette wheel.
  • Bowser Revolution
  • Bowser's Chance Time
  • 10,000 Coin Present / 100 Star Present / Star Steal / Stars-Packed to Go: While the roulette is capable of landing on these events unlike in the first game, Bowser will leave without doing anything if it happens. Stars-Packed to Go is a new gold-lettered event added to the others.
  • Bowser's Coin Potluck: This is similar to Coins for Bowser, but Bowser takes Coins from all four players. This event is similar to the result of a draw in Bowser's Balloon Burst and Bowser's Tug o' War in the original Mario Party. The number of Coins depends on the turn:
    • 10 Coins if in the first five turns
    • 30 Coins if in the last five turns
    • 20 Coins otherwise
  • Bowser's Multiplying Toads: Bowser does a "magic" trick that makes two Toads appear on the board. This moves the Star Space's position, adding a second Star Space as well. However, one of the Toads is Baby Bowser in disguise. Anyone who pays him 20 Coins for a Star makes him reveal himself and give them a Ztar (which does not affect the player's Star count). A Magic Lamp always leads the player to the real Toad.
  • Bowser's Appearing Act: Bowser leaves, then appears at Baby Bowser's position as the board villain at the end of the turn. This has the same effect as the Bowser Bomb.

Aesthetically, Bowser now appears in a Bowser's Castle-like background, without the player being directly visible and regardless of the board being played.

If the player has no Coins, Bowser will give them 10 Coins.

In Bowser's Chance Time, the announcer now says, "Chance Time?" in confusion, rather than the usual "Chance Time!" in an exclamatory tone.

Mario Party 3

The Bowser Space events in Mario Party 3

In Mario Party 3, Bowser's Chance Time, Bowser's Multiplying Toads, and Bowser's Appearing Act were removed, while five new events were introduced. The space's texture was also changed, along with those of the game's other spaces. The new events include:

  • Coins for Bowser
  • Bowser Revolution: This event is unchanged from the previous games mechanically, but Bowser now flashes red during this event.
  • 10,000 Coin Present / 100 Star Present / Star Steal
  • Bowser's Coin Potluck
  • Bowser's Curse: Bowser flashes violet, then places a curse on all four players that forces them to move 1–3 spaces on their next turn, much like a Poison Mushroom, unless they use an item that cancels the effect.
  • Bowser's Reverse Curse: Bowser flashes green, then places a curse on all four players that forces them to move backwards on their next turn, much like a Reverse Mushroom, unless they use an item that cancels the effect.
  • Bowser Shuffle: Bowser flashes yellow, then uses his magic to randomly shuffle all four players' positions on the board.
  • Bowser Phone Giveaway: Bowser gives the player a Bowser Phone for free. Rarely, Bowser gives the player two Bowser Phones.
  • Bowser Suit Giveaway: Bowser gives the player a Bowser Suit for free.

If a player lands on a Bowser Space without any coins, Bowser pays them either 30, 40, or 50 coins (depending on placement) and does not trigger an event. Unlike in the first Mario Party, no Stars are lost if the player possesses any when this happens.

Unlike in previous games, the result of the Bowser Event roulette is not random, allowing the player to select an event from those available with precise timing; the roulette always stops on the event that the cursor is hanging over when A Button is pressed to stop the roulette.[1]

The Bowser Phone makes a chosen player visit Bowser as if they landed on a Bowser Space.

After a player lands on a Bowser Space, Bowser can be seen reclining occasionally. This affects the cutscene only by making it slightly longer.

Mario Party 4

In Mario Party 4, the Bowser Space is significantly reworked compared to the previous games. Usually, a Koopa Kid appears in Bowser's place, hanging from a balloon and stealing 10–30 Coins (in increments of five) from either the player who landed on the space or (less commonly) all four players. This works similarly to the Coins for Bowser and Bowser's Coin Potluck events from previous games.

More rarely, Bowser himself appears, flattening the player who landed on the space and any others standing there. One of several named events is then activated like in previous games, but Bowser now decides the event himself, instead of picking from a roulette. The following four events may be selected by Bowser, three of which return from Mario Party 3:

  • Bowser Mini-Game: Formatted as "Bowser Game" in the text that displays onscreen when the event is announced, this new event is the most common and involves the four players playing one of three Bowser minigames. All three of these minigames are hosted by Bowser and two Koopa Kids, and always end with one loser, who is burned by Bowser's fire breath and loses either all of their items, half of their coins, all of their coins, or one Star. Bowser announces what the losing player will have to give up before the minigame starts.
  • Bowser Revolution: Bowser now flashes blue during this event.
  • Bowser Shuffle: Bowser now flashes blue during this event.
  • Bowser Suit: Similarly to the Bowser Suit Giveaway from the previous game, Bowser gives a Bowser Suit to the player who landed on the space. This event is now the only way to obtain a Bowser Suit, and it occurs much more rarely than before, being rarer than the other events by a significant margin.

Sometimes, when Koopa Kid is about to leave after taking coins, he calls for Bowser, causing Bowser to start an event immediately afterwards.

If Koopa Kid appears when the player has no coins, he will give them 10 coins, but he may call for Bowser to start an event regardless of the player's number of coins.

Aesthetically, the screen now darkens and a flashing Bowser silhouette accompanied by Bowser's laugh now appears when the player lands on a Bowser Space, followed by a Koopa Kid or Bowser's arrival.

Mario Party 5

In Mario Party 5, the Bowser Suit event has been removed, and Koopa Kid no longer appears to take coins away. One new event has been added, and the other three from Mario Party 4 return:

  • Bowser Mini-Game: This is formatted differently than it is in Mario Party 4—any number of players may win or lose depending on their performance. Bowser takes coins, capsules, or one star from any losers while sparing the winners.
  • Bowser Revolution: Bowser no longer flashes during this event.
  • Bowser Shuffle: Bowser no longer flashes during this event.
  • Bowser Bonus: In this new event, Bowser gives a Ztar to the player, taking away one of their stars.

Sometimes, before Bowser declares an event, Donkey Kong appears and punches Bowser. Bowser then blames Donkey Kong for ruining the event and then steals 10 or 20 coins from the player. This can only occur if the next space in the path is level with the Bowser Space, since Donkey Kong initially appears on the next space before jumping down to face Bowser.[2]

If a player lands on a Bowser space and does not have any coins, Bowser gives them 10 coins and does not start an event.

In this game, only one Bowser space appears on each board and is placed on a random red space at the start of the game, rather than having constant locations on each board. If a player receives a Bowser Capsule, Bowser appears and turns a red space into another Bowser space. Also, during the Last Five Turns Event, one of the roulette events will turn all red spaces into Bowser spaces.

In Story Mode, there are no Bowser spaces on the board by default, but they may be added by Bowser Capsules. If the player lands on a Bowser space, Bowser takes half of their coins. If a Koopa Kid lands on a Bowser space, Bowser gives them five coins.

Mario Party 6

In Mario Party 6, Bowser Spaces appear only during the night in Party Mode, replaced by DK Spaces during the day. The Bowser Revolution and Bowser Shuffle are removed from the event rotation, leaving only the following two events:

  • Bowser Mini-Game: This is once again the most common event, largely unchanged from their format in the previous game (though with a new set of minigames). Bowser takes the coins or Orbs of any player who loses.
  • Bowser Bonus: With this event reworked from the previous game, Bowser now hits a special Dice Block in this event, displaying a certain number of coins or Stars. Bowser then steals the number of coins and Stars indicated from the player. If Bowser hits a Star and the player does not have any, Bowser does not steal anything.

There are no Bowser Spaces or DK Spaces in Clockwork Castle.

In Solo Mode, Bowser Spaces always activate the same event—Bowser's Mini-Game, in which Bowser forces the player to play a 4-Player, 1-vs.-3, or 2-vs.-2 minigame against the colored Koopa Kids. If the player wins, Bowser gives them the minigame played and 10 coins, while losing causes Bowser to take all of the player's coins or minigames, or Orbs if the player does not have any coins or minigames. If the player does not have any coins, minigames, or Orbs, Bowser gives them three Cursed Mushroom Orbs and does not start a minigame.

Additionally, the Bowser Revolution event from previous games can now occur during the Last Five Turns Event, despite no longer occurring on the Bowser Space.

If a player has no coins when landing on a Bowser Space, Bowser gives them 10 coins and does not start a Bowser minigame or Bowser Bonus.

Mario Party 7

In Mario Party 7, "Bowser Bonus" is removed, leaving only "Bowser Minigame," which is now divided into two events:

  • Single-Player Bowser Minigame: This event is now the more common of the two events. The player who landed on the space faces off against Bowser in one of three minigames. Losing carries the penalty of the player's Stars or coins being taken.
  • Multiplayer Bowser Minigame: This event resembles the Bowser minigames of the previous games. All four players participate in one of three minigames where losing carries the penalty of the player's Stars or coins being taken. These minigames do not appear in the Solo Cruise due to requiring four players.

Unlike in previous games, Bowser no longer steals items from players who lose at his minigames. Instead, he is capable of stealing Stars.

Mario Party 7 also introduces Koopa Kid Spaces, which have a similar effect to Bowser Spaces from the earlier titles, including events similar to the Bowser Revolution and Bowser Shuffle.

Aesthetically, the flashing Bowser silhouette remains from previous games, but the player is now dropped into a hole and sent to the board's Start Space where they encounter Bowser, as opposed to Bowser flattening the player.

In Grand Canal, Bowser Spaces appear only after Bowser Time occurs. Nine Bowser Spaces appear when Bowser builds his own bridges after destroying the bridges on the board. However, the Bowser Spaces do not appear in constant locations in the Party Cruise. In the Solo Cruise, three Bowser Spaces appear on normal bridges on the board.

No Bowser Spaces appear in Bowser's Enchanted Inferno!, though they still appear on the board results screen.

If the player has no coins, Bowser will give them 10 coins and will not start a Bowser minigame regardless of whether they have Stars or not.

During the Last Four Turns Event on Pagoda Peak, on Neon Heights, and in Windmillville, one of the roulette events will turn all Red Spaces into Bowser Spaces.

Mario Party 8

In Mario Party 8, all DK Spaces are replaced with Bowser Spaces when someone lands on a DK Space, and vice versa. Bowser now performs events specific to each board, which are, in some way, the inverse of what happens on DK Spaces and can be considered harmful to the player, though sometimes Bowser takes pity on a player who is at a disadvantage, such as having no Stars or coins. This effect is similar to the Bowser Time event from the game's predecessor. The following events occur on each board:

  • DK's Treetop Temple: Bowser moves the Star to a different location, similar to the Lucky Lamp, Chomp Call, and Tweester Capsule items from past games.
  • Goomba's Booty Boardwalk: Bowser attacks the player with Lava Bubbles three times. The player has to jump to dodge the Lava Bubbles. Each successful hit costs the player 10 coins if the player fails to avoid them (the maximum number of coins that can be lost is 30, with 10 coins for each hit). If the player has zero coins, Bowser gives them 10 coins.
  • King Boo's Haunted Hideaway: Bowser covers all the pitfalls with his own platforms. He then steals a Star from the first player who reaches one of his platforms (although if the player has zero Stars, Bowser gives them 10 coins instead), drops them into the pitfall back to the start, and leaves, uncovering all of the pitfalls in the process. He steals all of the player's coins in Star Battle Arena, but he gives 10 coins to players who have zero coins. Bowser also leaves if the house is shuffled by King Boo or if someone lands on a DK Space.
  • Shy Guy's Perplex Express: Bowser's Bad-Breath Express overtakes the current locomotive. If the first player who reaches Bowser has a Star, he steals it. If the player does not have any Stars, Bowser gives them 10 coins. In Star Battle Arena, he steals half of the player's coins but gives 10 coins to players who have no coins. The Bad-Breath Express leaves once someone either passes Bowser or lands on a DK Space.
  • Koopa's Tycoon Town: Bowser steals up to 10 coins from every investor in one of the five main Hotels. If enough coins are taken, the Hotel downsizes and the owner loses a Star or, in some cases, two Stars.
  • Bowser's Warped Orbit: Bowser steals a Star from the player. If they do not have any Stars, Bowser gives them 10 coins.

In King Boo's Haunted Hideaway and on Shy Guy's Perplex Express, Bowser's theme continues playing throughout the match until a player reaches Bowser or lands on a DK Space. In King Boo's Haunted Hideaway, Bowser's theme also stops playing once King Boo reshuffles the house.

Mario Party DS

In Mario Party DS, Bowser randomly chooses one of four options:

  • Gimme Coins!: The player loses 10–20 coins, or all if they have fewer than 10.
  • Gimme Stars!: The player loses one Star.
  • Gimme Charity!: The player has to give 10 coins to each of the other players. In a Battle Royale, if the player has fewer than 30 coins, the highest number divisible by three will be the number of coins lost. In a duel or tag battle match, the player loses 10 coins, or all their coins if they have fewer than 10.
  • Gimme Equality!: This event is essentially the same as the Bowser Revolution from previous games. Bowser redistributes all the coins so that every player has an equal number. If the player has no Stars and coins, this event is usually picked.

Aesthetically, Bowser now appears on the Nintendo DS's top screen after brief tremors.

No Bowser Spaces appear in Bowser's Pinball Machine, though they still appear on the board results screen.

Mario Party 9

Bowser Spaces return in Mario Party 9, where they are usually applied by Bowser as a "gift" for the captain after the players reach Green Toad. Bowser asks if the captain wants "a whole bunch of" presents. If a player answers no, Bowser often applies the same number of Bowser Spaces as if they answered yes, but he may also apply a few. If the captain is a CPU player, they always answer yes, resulting in slightly more Bowser Spaces. However, there is no choice involved in Bowser Station. When players land on a Bowser Space on a board, Bowser activates a roulette, and one of the following events initiates:

  • Bowser Revolution (4 Bowser icons)
    • This event has the same effect as in past games, but due to the removal of coins for this installment, Bowser instead takes everyone's Mini Stars or bananas and distributes them equally amongst the players.
    • If there is an uneven number of total Mini Stars in play, Bowser takes out the extra Mini Stars or Bananas and keeps them for himself.
    • This event is now as rare as "Get 10,000 Mini Stars/Bananas" since players are only playing for Mini Stars or Bananas.
  • Lose Half of your Mini Stars/Bananas (4 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser steals half of the captain's Mini Stars. If the captain has an odd number of Mini Stars, Bowser takes the larger portion.
    • If the captain is in last place, Bowser does not take any Mini Stars and sometimes doubles their Mini Stars instead.
      • If the last-place captain is playing in DK's Jungle Ruins, Bowser often doubles their bananas.
  • Battle for half of your Mini Stars (4 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser takes half of each player's Mini Stars and forces everyone to play a Battle Minigame to win them back. Just like in Hammer Bro's version, the Mini Stars are distributed to the players based on the results of the minigame, with first place receiving a massive portion and last place receiving none. However, Bowser keeps any extra Mini Stars that cannot be split among the players.
    • The only difference between both versions of Battle Minigames is Bowser consumes a massive total of Mini Stars for a Jackpot, while Hammer Bro collects only a total of 9 or 12.
    • The Battle Minigame will always be one of the Free-For-All Minigames, with the usual selection process applied.
    • This event does not appear in DK's Jungle Ruins or when the game is played with only two players.
    • The payout goes as follows:

  • Reverse Minigame (2 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser forces everyone to compete in a minigame with an objective opposite the one that the minigame normally requires (e.g., if the minigame's objective is to survive the longest, the objective is now to be the first to be eliminated). Afterward, Bowser gives 10 Mini Stars (20 bananas in DK's Jungle Ruins) to the player(s) who came in last place.
    • Four minigames are playable in this mode: Tumble Temple, Thwomper Room, Billistics, and Chain Event.
    • In a rare case, if all the players come in last, Bowser does not give any Mini Stars or bananas at all.
  • Give 5 or 10 Mini Stars/15 Bananas to Last Place (1 Bowser icon (5 Mini Stars/15 Bananas), 3 Bowser icons (10 Mini Stars))
    • Bowser forces the current captain to give Mini Stars or bananas to the player currently in last place.
    • If the last-place player is the captain, Bowser himself gives the captain the Mini Stars or bananas.
    • If all players are tied for first place, Bowser spares the captain and does not give or take any Mini Stars or bananas to or from rivals.
    • If multiple players are in last place but not the captain themselves, Bowser randomly selects one of the last-place players.
  • Everybody loses Special Dice Blocks (2 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser steals everyone's special Dice Blocks. If no one has any Special Dice Blocks, nothing happens.
  • Get 10,000 Mini Stars/Bananas (5 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser mocks the captain for thinking that he will actually give them 10,000 Mini Stars, ending the event with no further actions.
    • In DK's Jungle Ruins, if the captain lands on a Bowser Space and gets the option Get 10,000 Bananas, Bowser claims that he "got a bit hungry" and ate them.
    • Sometimes, Bowser states that he does not have 10,000 Mini Stars or bananas, but he gives the captain 10 instead.
      • Bowser always gives the captain 10 Mini Stars or bananas if they are in last place.

The Reverse and Battle Minigames qualify as Bowser Minigames due to the normal rules and Mini Star distribution changed from Bowser.

Any minigames triggered by Bowser follow the same selection process as normal (the captain chooses from three random minigames; the last-place player chooses if past Green Toad).

Because most of these events have positive effects on the player in last place, the yellow Toad may suggest that landing on a Bowser Space can be a good idea if the captain is in last place and is far behind other players.

Mario Party: Island Tour

In Mario Party: Island Tour, the Bowser Spaces appear on some boards but not all. If a player lands on one (or if the game is played in Bowser's Tower and the player and Green Toad encounter him on a floor), Bowser activates a roulette with four or five options.

  • Go back (number) spaces!
    • Bowser forces the player to go back a number of spaces.
  • Get sucked into a card!
    • Bowser sucks the player into a card, forcing them to miss three of their turns. This event appears only in Shy Guy's Shuffle City.
  • Everybody trade items!
    • Bowser calls everybody out and has players (two at a time) trade all their items to their rivals.
  • Switch places with someone!
    • The player switches places with a rival (selected by a second roulette with rivals' faces)
  • The same method as the Crazy Kamek item in Perilous Palace Path
  • Warp to last place!
    • Bowser forces the player to go to the same space as the last-place player.
  • Advance (number) spaces!
    • In Perilous Palace Path, this occurs only if the player is in last place and nobody has any items, and that player will be warped that number of spaces forward (via spring trigger).
    • Appears mostly on Bowser's Peculiar Peak.
  • Get 1 or 2 free items!
    • This is exactly like the Item Space, but it occurs only if the player is in last place and nobody has any items at all.
  • Give last place a gift!
    • Bowser forces that player to give one item to the player in last place.
    • If more than one player is in last place, Bowser randomly chooses one of them to receive the item.
    • If the player is in last place, Bowser himself gives them an item.
  • Imitate Bowser's Voice
    • Triggers the minigame Utter Nonsense and auto-selects Bowser. The three (or occasionally one) loser(s) all get punished. (This does not appear if "Mic" is turned off in the Minigame Pack or if CPUs are playing.)

The following do not have a serious effect:

  • Get 300 items! (Perilous Palace Path)
  • Warp directly to the goal! (Perilous Palace Path)
  • Get 100 items! (Shy Guy's Shuffle City)
  • Go back 980 spaces! (Shy Guy's Shuffle City)
  • Receive a lifetime supply of cotton candy! (Shy Guy's Shuffle City)
  • Listen to Bowser's tales of daring! (Shy Guy's Shuffle City)
  • Watch a 3-hour lecture! (Shy Guy's Shuffle City)

Something similar happens when a player gets a Bowser Penalty.

Bowser's Tower
  • Fall one floor down
    • Bowser pushes the player and Green Toad down one floor, causing them to play that floor again.
  • Underlings get slightly stronger
    • The next minigame has the computer players one level up.
    • Example: Easy level to Normal level
  • Underlings get much stronger
    • The next minigame has the computer players two levels up.
    • Example: Easy level to Hard level

Nothing happens if any of the following are selected:

  • Get 1,000,000 free Mario Party Points! (Bowser's Tower)
  • Lose all your Mario Party Points! (Bowser's Tower)
  • Start again from the ground floor! (Bowser's Tower)
  • You're invited to the top floor! (Bowser's Tower)

Mario Party 10

In Mario Party 10, Bowser Spaces visually emit a purplish smog, and landing on one triggers a roulette that can cause havoc to the player. The roulette recycles events from Mario Party 9. In amiibo Party, coins and Stars can be lost. In this game, however, Bowser no longer helps the player if they are in last place (with some exceptions). Also, Bowser Spaces appear only if the player frees Bowser before reaching the homestretch, except in Chaos Castle. Additionally, unlike in Mario Party 9 and Mario Party: Island Tour, the Bowser Roulette now stops on an event by itself; the player who landed on the Bowser Space does not get to stop the roulette.

Returning Bowser Events from Mario Party 9
  • Win 10,000 Mini Stars (5 Bowser icons)
    • Bowser now always gives the player only one Mini Star and repeatedly does his laughing animation.
  • Bowser Revolution (4 Bowser icons)
    • The same scenario from Mario Party 9 is used.
  • Lose half of your Mini Stars (1 Bowser icon)
    • Even if the player is in last place, Bowser or Bowser Jr. always reduces the captain's Mini Stars by half unless the captain does not have any Mini Stars at all.
    • If the captain does not have any Mini Stars, Bowser automatically gives the captain ten Mini Stars.
    • If the player has an odd number of Mini Stars, Bowser takes only the rounded-down portion.
    • Despite this event having all five out of five Bowser Jr. icons on Bowser Jr.'s roulette and having four out of five Bowser icons in Mario Party 9, this event from a Bowser Space has only one Bowser icon in this game.
  • Battle for half of your Mini Stars (3 Bowser icons)
    • If the Mini Stars cannot be split to the players, Bowser provides extra Mini Stars to the players in the top three positions.
    • If a tie occurs, a Dice Block decides, unlike in Mario Party 9.
    • Unlike in Mario Party 9, this event can also appear when there are only two players in a match, instead of three or four players.
    • The payout goes as follows:

  • Give 10 Mini Stars to the player in last place (2 Bowser icons)
    • Unlike during the "Lose half of your Mini Stars" Event, Bowser gives the captain ten Mini Stars if they are in last place.
    • The same scenario from Mario Party 9 is used otherwise.
  • Reverse Minigame (1 Bowser icon)
    • The last-place player in the minigame now wins 20 Mini Stars.
    • The playable Reverse Minigames are Bob-omb Combo, Fuzzy Fliers, and Fruit Cahoots.
    • If Fuzzy Fliers is played, the minigame continues even if one player achieves last place.
    • In a case where at most three out of four players tie for last place, the players who tie for last place all receive 20 Mini Stars.
amiibo Party Events

There is one Bowser Space located in the upper right section of each board at the start of an amiibo Party game. This can be changed only with the Bowser Space Roulette, which can turn Red Spaces into them or the opposite. If Bowser stops on a Bowser Space, he obtains a certain number of coins, a Star, or a Special Dice Block depending on the event.

  • Lose (number) coins! (1 Bowser icon (5 coins/10 coins), 2 Bowser icons (20 coins))
    • On some occasions, Bowser may give the player coins, if they are in last place.
    • If the player has no coins but is not in last place, nothing happens.
  • Lose half of your coins! (3 Bowser icons)
    • If the player has an odd number of coins, Bowser takes only the rounded-down portion.
    • If the player has no coins but is not in last place, nothing happens.
  • Lose 1 Star! (4 Bowser icons)
    • If the player has no Stars but is not in last place, nothing happens.
    • If the player is in last place, Bowser gives the player one Star.
      • Depending on how far the player is from their rivals, Bowser may also take one Star from the first-place rival and give it to the player.[3]
  • Give 1 Star to the player in last place! (4 Bowser icons)
    • Unlike during the "Lose 1 Star!" Event, Bowser forces the player to give one of their Stars to the one in last place.
    • This is a rare event to come up and usually appears only when the player is in first place with at least one Star.
  • Lose half of your Stars! (5 Bowser Icons)
    • Bowser takes half of the player's Stars.
    • If the player has an odd amount, Bowser takes only the rounded-down portion.
    • This is a very rare event to come up and usually appears only when the player has at least four Stars.

Mario Party Superstars

In Mario Party Superstars, landing on a Bowser Space has the same sound effect as when landing on a Bad Luck Space in Super Mario Party. The number of options displayed at once is six in the first half of the match and seven or eight in the second half, and the player that landed on the Bowser Space must press A Button to stop the roulette so that one of the following events (returning from Mario Party, Mario Party 2, and Mario Party 3) is randomly selected:

  • Give 10/15/20/304 coins to Bowser. – If the player does not have enough coins, Bowser takes all of what the player has. If the player does not have any coins at all, Bowser becomes angry and the player runs away with no punishment.
  • Give half of your coins to Bowser. – If the player has an odd number of coins, Bowser takes the larger portion.
  • Everyone gives 10 coins to Bowser.5 – All four players lose ten coins.
  • Lose one Star.4 – If the player has no Stars, Bowser makes the player run away or gives 20 coins to the player.
  • Bowser Minigame – All four players have to play one of the following minigames: Face-Lift (at least 80 points are required to win), Pit Boss, and Dark 'n' Crispy. Each player that fails the minigame loses ten coins.
    • Unlike in previous games, a Bowser Minigame is still played even if all players have no coins.
    • Unlike in Mario Party, if everybody wins, Bowser makes the players run away, not taking any coins.
  • Bowser Revolution – Bowser takes everyone's coins and splits them evenly among all the players, rounded down or up to the nearest integer.
  • Bowser Shuffle – This event randomly shuffles all players' positions on the board.
  • Receive 1000 coins/100 Stars.4 – These are not serious outcomes (coins and Stars are capped at 999 and 99, respectively). With these events behaving as they did in Mario Party 2, Bowser runs away and does nothing.

4 - This event appears only in the second half of the match.
5 - This event appears only in the first half of the match.

If the player is in last place regardless of whether or not they have any coins or Stars to lose, Bowser may give them ten coins instead. Additionally, all characters have a visibly frightened expression during the roulette, except Mario, who instead adopts a more defiant look.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

In Super Mario Party Jamboree, Bowser Spaces function similarly to those in Mario Party Superstars, where the player is presented with a roulette containing negative events. Bowser Spaces can be considered a more dangerous version of Unlucky Spaces. Due to Bowser being a playable character in this game, Impostor Bowser is the host of Bowser Spaces. The number of options displayed at once is five or six in the first half and seven or eight in the second half of the match. The events are as follows:[4]

  • Lose 10/15/20/306 coins. – Like in Mario Party Superstars, if the player does not have enough coins, Impostor Bowser takes all of what the player has. If the player does not have any coins at all, Impostor Bowser becomes angry and the player runs away with no punishment.
  • Lose half of your coins. – If the player has an odd number of coins, Impostor Bowser takes the larger portion.
  • All players lose 10 coins.6 – All four players lose ten coins.
  • Lose 1 Star.6 – If the player does not have any Stars, Impostor Bowser may give the player 20 coins.
  • Bowser Revolution – Bowser takes everyone's coins and splits them evenly among all the players, rounded down or up to the nearest integer.
  • Bowser Shuffle6 – This event randomly shuffles all players' positions on the board.
  • Receive 1000 coins/100 Stars.6 – Impostor Bowser tells the player to "look over there," then runs away. In King Bowser's Keep, he throws the player down onto the space instead.

6 - This event appears only in the second half of the match.

If the player is in last place, Impostor Bowser may give the player ten coins and does not trigger an event.[5]

Impostor Bowser may stop the roulette instead of the player. If a player uses a Bowser Phone to call Impostor Bowser on another player, Impostor Bowser always stops the roulette for the targeted player. In King Bowser's Keep, Impostor Bowser may destroy the roulette and immediately take away a Star from anyone who lands on his space (or all of their coins if the player does not have any Stars).

If Pro Rules are on, Impostor Bowser always steals a Star from the player, with the roulette containing five variations of the same option:[6]

  • Ditch 1 Star.
  • Drop 1 Star.
  • Forfeit 1 Star.
  • Lose 1 Star.
  • Toss 1 Star.

If the player does not have a Star, Impostor Bowser steals half of their coins on most boards, or all of their coins in King Bowser's Keep.[6]

Additionally, if the player has a Jamboree Buddy, the player must spin the roulette again and take two punishments from Impostor Bowser. This also gives the player the "Bowser's Groupies" achievement.[7]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Bowser Space, using its appearance from Mario Party 6, appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a sticker, but it is renamed Bowser Coin for unknown reasons.
