The Flower Cup is a trophy available in many racing and sports games. Consistently, the level of difficulty increases slightly from the previous Mushroom Cup, but not substantially. In many other games, such as Mario Power Tennis, the Flower Cup is renamed the Fire Cup, yet is represented with a Fire Flower.
The cup is a representation of four or five courses in the Mario Kart series. As usual, the difficulty level of this cup is a bit more than the previous, and typically has more dynamic and gimmicky tracks in comparison. This cup has got Mario Circuit (or in the case of Mario Kart 64, Mario Raceway), with the exception of Mario Kart DS (where it is in the Star Cup). The emblem of the Flower Cup is represented by the Fire Flower. Completing this cup unlocks the Star Cup from Mario Kart Wii onwards. It is always a Cup avaible from the start with the exception of Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8, where is unlockable by beating the Mushroom Cup. In Mario Kart 7, beating the 150cc version unlocks Wario.

Artwork of the Flower Cup logo, from Mario Kart 8.
The Flower Cup logo in Mario Kart 8.

The Flower Cup is a cup usually appearing as the second cup in the Mario Kart series. It is represented by a Fire Flower.

This cup exclusively features new courses, usually including a Mario Circuit as the first or second course. It is slightly more difficult than the Mushroom Cup. The Flower Cup is available from the start in every mainline Mario Kart game except Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8, where it is unlocked by completing the Mushroom Cup. In games that do not have all cups available from the start, completing the Flower Cup in third place or higher unlocks the Star Cup.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Flower Cup is one of two cups themed around a flower, alongside the Boomerang Cup.

Most unlockable characters in Mario Kart 8 are unlocked at random upon winning Grand Prix cups (separate cups must be played to unlock characters), which includes the Flower Cup. Characters that can be unlocked include Rosalina, Metal Mario, Lakitu, Toadette, Baby Rosalina, Pink Gold Peach, Iggy Koopa, Roy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Larry Koopa, Wendy O. Koopa, Ludwig von Koopa, Morton Koopa Jr., and Mii. Mii is unlocked upon the eighth Grand Prix cup victory, unless an amiibo is used to unlock Mii beforehand.

In addition, the Gold Standard body can be unlocked by getting a 1 star rank or higher on all non-DLC cups (including the Flower Cup) on any one engine class, and the 150cc Mirror class can be unlocked by winning all 150cc cups.

The cup appears also in sports-themed Super Mario games like Super Mario Strikers and Mario Superstar Baseball. In Super Mario Strikers, the Flower Cup has six teams, five rounds, and uses the table system. When the player finishes in the top three, the Crater Field and the Star Cup are unlocked. A similar cup is the Super Flower Cup. The Flower Cup is also one of three playable tournaments in Mario Sports Mix.

In Mario Tennis Open, the Flower Cup is the second cup in the World Open tournament. It is played on the Wario Dunes court, and matches in this cup have one set for the starting round, and three sets each for the semi-finals and finals. The CPU difficulty is slightly higher than in the Mushroom Cup, which must be completed to unlock the Flower Cup.

The Flower Cup is also the second cup in the COM Tournament mode of Mario Tennis Aces, featuring middling CPU difficulty.

Profiles[edit]

The Flower Cup card from the Mario Kart Wii trading cards
 • Mario Kart 64 website: "The Flower Cup turns up the heat a little, with more challenging and longer courses than in the Mushroom Cup."
 • Mario Kart Wii trading card: "Talk about a diverse set of tracks; the tracks that make up the Flower Cup must be located at the four corners of the Mushroom Kingdom! The layouts are great for developing your skills and the surroundings will keep you interested while you look for ways to reduce your lap times."
