As the minigame progresses, the minute hand may be the only hand rotating, the hour hand may be the only one rotating, both hands may be rotating, and they may also reverse direction and change speeds. The last player standing wins. If both players are knocked off by the minute hand at the same time or if they jump over the hand 99 times, the minigame ends in a draw.

Players are on the hour hand of a clock resembling the painting associated with Tick Tock Clock in Super Mario 64. They jump over the minute hand as it rotates around until one of them is hit by it, making the other player win. More possibilities occur if gameplay goes on longer, such as only the hour hand moving, both hands rotating, the hands moving at different speeds, or reversing direction. If both players are eliminated or have jumped over the minute hand 99 times, it is a draw.

An "Endless" version of Ticktop Hop appears in Mario Party Superstars, continuing until both players are eliminated.[1]
