History[edit]

Mario Kart series[edit]

Mario Kart: Super Circuit[edit]

MKSC Yoshi Desert Starting Line.png

A Yoshi Sphinx first appears in Mario Kart: Super Circuit in the background of Yoshi Desert, which is also used by that game's Battle Course 4.

Mario Kart Wii[edit]

In Mario Kart Wii, Dry Dry Ruins features two Yoshi Sphinxes, one of which is on the turn right behind the starting line.

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

Both GBA Yoshi Desert and Wii Dry Dry Ruins return in Mario Kart Tour. However, the Yoshi Sphinx only returns in GBA Yoshi Desert, where it is now a 3D model and closer to the course. The two Yoshi Sphinxes in Wii Dry Dry Ruins have been replaced with a singular Hammer Bros. Sphinx.

Super Mario 64 DS[edit]

Puzzle Panel.png

Yoshi Sphinxes appear flanking the bottom screen in the Super Mario 64 DS minigames Puzzle Panel and Puzzle Panic. The one on the left has a thought bubble showing the player's current score, while the one on the right is thinking about the player's current lives. Upon successfully completing a puzzle, the sphinxes will blast off; while making a mistake will cause them to react with alarm.

New Super Mario Bros.[edit]

Puzzle Panel reappears as a minigame in New Super Mario Bros. with its graphics intact. As such, the Yoshi Sphinxes reappear as well.

Paper Mario series[edit]

In its most prominent appearance, a Yoshi Sphinx appears as world 2-2 of Paper Mario: Sticker Star. In this game, it is located in a mysterious area near Drybake Desert, from which it can be seen.

Mario starts in a remote platform with a pipe and some Spinies. This pipe will take Mario to the main quadrant of the sphinx. To the left is a door, and to the right is two blocks guarded by a Spiny. Mario must enter the door to progress. It takes him to a room with a Dry Bones and two torches on the wall; Mario can hit the torches from below to light them. On the right of the room is a door that takes Mario to another room somewhat alike the first one, except on the middle of the wall there is a different pattern. Mario has to hit the shape in the center with his hammer to discover a slot on the wall. He must then enter it to reveal another room with four doors, a Pokey and a Spiny. One door is hidden behind a beam that leads to a dark room with a passage to the piece of the Sticker Comet.

When Mario reaches the door, he will be attacked by three Paratroopas. After defeating the three Paratroopas, Mario gains access to the piece of the Sticker Comet, completing the level. If Mario goes into the archway, there is another bright area, one of which has the Lightbulb Thing. After Mario reaches the top of the sphinx and slips off onto the tongue, Kamek will be fought, but this time, he will transform all of Mario's stickers into sandals. After defeating him, Mario's Stickers are returned to normal and a tablet piece neccesary to enter Drybake Stadium is obtained, then the tongue retracts, while hearing a very deep, "Yooooshiiiiiiiiii!" swallowing Mario with it.

The Secret Door location is on the ground level of the Sphinx. The player needs to go around to the other side (right side) of the base where the outline for the sticker will be along the wall guarded by a Spiny. The door leads to the Paper Fan Thing.

The two sticker upgrade spots in this area are above the pink flower in the beginning area and under the ? Block in the dark room.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star statistics[edit]

Tattle text[edit]

Beginning Area[edit]

  • There's something really big over there. Is that some kind of animal?

Outside the Sphinx[edit]

  • Now that I see it up close, it IS big. It looks a lot like a dinosaur. Or maybe a dragon.

Inside the Sphinx[edit]

  • I feel like I'm being digested by an animal or something. What part would this be? The gizzard?

On top of the Head[edit]

  • Wow, we are SERIOUSLY high up! Hey, is this what it means to have your nose in the air...?

Advice[edit]

  • If it's a sphinx, it's got to have at least ONE treasure, right? Something flashy. It's, like, a law or something.
