"Mine Menace" is a theme composed for Donkey Kong Country Returns. It is the more common one of two themes that plays when riding a Rocket Barrel. In contrast to the more environmental tracks from the Donkey Kong Country series, "Mine Menace" is a loud, bombastic tune with heavy usage of brass instruments, fit for an action-focused scenario.

Original[edit]

In Donkey Kong Country Returns, "Mine Menace" plays in Peaceful Pier and Crowded Cavern when Donkey Kong activates the Rocket Barrel. It and its arrangements are commonly played in levels where the Rocket Barrel flies forwards, whereas a different theme, albeit with similar instrumentation, plays in levels where the Rocket Barrel flies upwards (with Mole Patrol being the outlier).

Donkey Kong Country Returns[edit]

A shorter version of "Mine Menace" is played in Gear Getaway. This is also the version that is released on Donkey Kong Returns Original Sound Track, which was only available as a reward on the Japanese Club Nintendo. On the soundtrack, this track takes the Japanese name of Gear Getaway, which translates to "Thrill! Gear Ride."

The level Hot Rocket also makes use of a unique variation of "Mine Menace," in which the instrumentation of the Volcano level themes (e.g. low chants) join in.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]

Four levels in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze include a Rocket Barrel, and each one uses a new arrangement of "Mine Menace." The version played in Rodent Ruckus is a European-styled arrangement and makes use of accordions in its instrumentation. This arrangement is also referred to as "Rodent Ruckus," after the level it appears in, in the game's music gallery.

In Twilight Terror, an African-style arrangement of "Mine Menace" is heard, using woodwind instrumentation. The game's music gallery titles it "Twilight Terror" as well.

The version of "Mine Menace" in Reckless Ride features similar instrumentation to the previous arrangements, but with a techno-style beat. Finally, the version used in Blurry Flurry is an orchestral arrangement of "Mine Menace."

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U features an arrangement of the short version of "Mine Menace" as heard in Gear Getaway; as such, this track is titled "Gear Getaway" as well, and is arranged by Noriyuki Iwadare. This arrangement also includes a short arrangement of "DK Island Swing".

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, "Gear Getaway" plays as an alternate track for the Jungle Japes stage that initially debuted in Super Smash Bros. Melee. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, "Gear Getaway" is by default the most frequent track to be played on Jungle Hijinxs, which was newly introduced in this game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reuses the "Gear Getaway" arrangement previously made for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. It can be played on all Donkey Kong series stages.
