"Title BGM"[1] is a musical theme composed by Yukio Kaneoka for the NES version of Mario Bros. that plays on the game's title screen. It would go on to later be included in the Nintendo PlayChoice-10, Atari 8-bit, and Atari 7800 versions of Mario Bros. as well as later ports of the NES version.

Reuses[edit]

The following list does not include ports and remakes of Mario Bros.

Game Description
WarioWare: Twisted! "Title BGM" plays during the Mario Brothers microgame, though it is slowed down slightly.
Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury "Title BGM" can be heard on the title screen of Luigi Bros.

Arrangements[edit]

Mario Bros. series[edit]

Mario Bros. (Atari 8-bit)[edit]

The title screen of the Atari 8-bit version of Mario Bros. features an arrangement of "Title BGM" similar to the NES original, but it used lower-quality and scratchier chiptune instrumentation.

Mario Bros. (Atari 7800)[edit]

The title screen of the Atari 7800 version of Mario Bros. features a slightly faster arrangement of "Title BGM" that uses different chiptune instrumentation. Additionally, the end of the arrangement features an altered melody from the NES original.

Super Mario Advance[edit]

Super Mario Advance includes a remake of Mario Bros. along with a 16-bit arrangement of "Title BGM".

This arrangement returns alongside the Mario Bros. remake in Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, albeit with slight variations between instruments.

Mario Power Tennis[edit]

In Mario Power Tennis and its Wii port New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis, a chiptune and steel drum arrangement with flute accompaniment of "Title BGM" by Motoi Sakuraba plays during exhibition matches on the Mario Classic Court, which is heavily based on Mario Bros.

WarioWare series[edit]

WarioWare: Smooth Moves[edit]

An orchestral arrangement of "Title BGM" is one of the songs that the player can conduct in Level 2 of the Opening Night microgame in WarioWare: Smooth Moves.

WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase[edit]

WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase features a slightly faster arrangement of "Title BGM" very similar to the NES original, but it uses slightly different chiptune instrumentation.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]

Super Smash Bros. Brawl features an arranged medley of "Title BGM" and "Game Start" by Shogo Sakai titled "Mario Bros." The arrangement is primarily played on the electronic keyboard, but it also includes chiptune samples and rock-inspired backing instrumentation, as well as a brief symphonic bridge. It can be played on the Mario Bros. stage. Interestingly, the arrangement is classified as a Nintendo-series track rather than a Super Mario-series track. "Title BGM" is also incorporated in "Title / Ending (Super Mario World)" by Shota Kageyama, acting as a countermelody played on a music box during the "Title" portion of the track.

"Mario Bros." returns in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where it can be played on the 75m and Super Mario Maker stages, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where it can be played on any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage. Unlike Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the arrangement is classified as a Super Mario-series track in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Likewise, "Title / Ending (Super Mario World)" can play on the Yoshi's Island and Super Mario Maker stages in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and any Super Smash Bros.-series and Super Mario-series stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
