Boulder Ball is a 1-vs-3 minigame in Mario Party 3 and Mario Party Superstars.

Overview[edit]

Boulder Ball from Mario Party Superstars.
Gameplay from Mario Party Superstars, showing Wario flattened by a boulder

The solo player uses a machine to throws boulders at the team players, who try to make it to the top of a sandy slope before time runs out. If a boulder hits a player, they become squished temporarily and slide down the hill. If the solo player stops every team member from making it to the top, they win, but if at least one team player makes it, the team wins.

Boulder Ball appears in Stages 1 and 4 of the Trio Challenge in Mt. Minigames. Stage 1 features a battle against a solo CPU player at Easy difficulty, with the player receiving a Rank A if they win with at least 15 seconds remaining; Rank B for 10–14 seconds; Rank C for 5–9 seconds; and Rank D for 1–4 seconds. Stage 4 has the opposite set-up of a solo human player against a team of three CPU players, earning a Rank A if the team members lose and have gone up a combined distance of 150%–300%, Rank B if it is 100%–149%, Rank C if it is 50%–99%, or Rank D if it is 1%–49%.
