The Sports Coupe (written as Sports Coupé in the British English version) is a kart in the Mario Kart series. As what its name suggests, it resembles a sports car, and also seems to be based on the Smart Roadster. Or a Porsche. Unlike most other vehicles, it has three exhaust pipes. The emblem is located between the two lower exhaust pipes. The badge resembles a Super Star.

History

Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

The Sports Coupe first appears in Mario Kart 8, as an unlockable kart body. It offers a boost in speed and weight, but a decrease in acceleration, anti-gravity handling, traction and mini-turbo. It has identical stats to the Mach 8, Circuit Special, Gold Standard, B Dasher, and P-Wing. Like the Circuit Special, its engine sound is reminiscent of a real-world racing car, and the Sports Coupe is also one of the vehicles in Mario Kart 8 to have a supercharged engine (but is twin turbocharged), which almost sounds like a flat-six engine from a Porsche 911 GT3, but is actually a DOHC V6 engine. The 150cc Time Trial staff ghosts for Mario Kart Stadium in both Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe use Mario on the Sports Coupe with Standard tires and the Super Glider.

In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Sports Coupe now has an increase in traction but a decrease in ground speed and water speed (although it offers a boost to air speed and a bigger boost to anti-gravity speed); it also now negatively impacts ground and air handling while boosting anti-gravity handling. As a result, the Sports Coupe now shares its stats with only the Mach 8 and the Inkstriker instead. CPU Daisy and Isabelle can be seen occasionally riding this kart with Standard tires. Donkey Kong and Funky Kong are also seen using this kart occasionally, but pairs it up with the Monster tires instead. The Toad Harbor and Toad's Turnpike 200cc Time Trial staff ghosts in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe use Toad and Toadette respectively on the Sports Coupe with Slick tires.

Mario Kart Tour

The Sports Coupe reappears in Mario Kart Tour, where it is classified as a High-End kart. It increases the duration of Rocket Start boosts and the amount of points earned for performing a Rocket Start. It uses the Standard tires from Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A variant themed around 2022, simply called the Sports Coupe 2022, was introduced in the New Year's 2022 Tour. The kart was introduced in the 1st Anniversary Tour and has since appeared in the First Pipe and Second Pipe of every tour. The table below details the kart's special availability by tour.
