- “Run for your life! It's a Zombie Shroom!”
- —In-game text, Super Paper Mario
A Zombie Shroom is an enemy that appears in Super Paper Mario. It is a navy-blue mushroom with light purple spots. Sometimes, Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, or Luigi will find a Mushroom or a relative item in a ? Block that instead immediately turns into a Zombie Shroom, moving extremely fast in the same pattern as a normal mushroom and dealing two damage with each hit. Any attack defeats it as it only has 1 HP, causing it to drop five coins. There is a stronger variant of this enemy, the Ghoul Shroom, which is gray. The Ghost Shroom item also resembles a Zombie Shroom.
In Super Mario-kun, Zombie Shrooms are the first enemies Mario faces in the Super Paper Mario storyline. After watching the live wedding of Peach and Bowser, Mario is immediately attacked by three Zombie Shrooms sent by Count Bleck. While Tippi tries to encourage Mario to fight back since he is the hero of the prophecy, Mario hits a ? Block that releases a Mega Star with which Mario is able to defeat them.
