A Spring Topman[1][2] is an enemy introduced in Super Mario Galaxy and a green member of the Topman Tribe.

History[edit]

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]

Spring Topmen appear as uncommon enemies in Super Mario Galaxy. Like Spiky Topmen, they charge at Mario (or Luigi) while spinning rapidly, causing him to get knocked away dizzily if they hit him, but getting knocked away themselves if he spins against them. Their upper half juts up on a spring and blinks orange when one is stunned by being hit with a jump or a spin, allowing Mario to bounce extra high off them and gently spin downwards, like with Spindrifts from Super Mario 64. Unlike most other enemies in the game, Spring Topmen respawn if defeated, specifically by reappearing from a small black circle resembling a black hole; the only way for them to be defeated in the first place is to be spun into an electric rail.

A Spring Topman first appears in the Buoy Base Galaxy, near the area with the Water Shooters after Mario spins a valve to turn the Water Shooters off. A similar robot known as a Sentry Garage appears atop the tower, and it can spawn Topminis. Spring Topmen later appear as part of the Dreadnought Galaxy's Topman Tribe; one here can spawn a Topmini if stomped on.
