Luigi's Mansion is the last race course of the Mushroom Cup in the game Mario Kart DS. Outside the mansion is Boo Woods which has a graveyard surrounding the mansion and beyond it, a swamp of mud with moving trees. When a character runs into one of these trees, instead of spinning out or rolling over, the character instead will just get stuck on the tree as if it were a wall.

Racers start outside the mansion in a section of Boo Woods, and they will go through a curl path to the entrance of the mansion, running along a narrow hall that leads the racers downwards to a room beneath the lobby. Various portraits of portrait ghosts from Luigi's Mansion can be seen hanging on the walls. The racers then go out of the mansion, crossing a stone path tunnel, where they reach the graveyard, leaving the mansion. Finally, racers end up crossing the swamp to cross the checkered line.

Luigi's Mansion is the only Luigi-themed race course in the series that is not a circuit-type course. It is also the only course in the series to share its name with a battle course. While it does not appear in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, a remix of its music is used for the GCN Luigi's Mansion battle course.

Missions

Missions 1-6 and 2-4 take place on this course, with Luigi driving in both of them.

  • In mission 1-6, the player starts inside the mansion and must drive out of it in reverse until they reach the graveyard.
  • In mission 2-4, the player must break five Item Boxes by pursuing them through the course.

Luigi's Mansion's appearance in Mario Kart 7

Luigi's Mansion appears as a Retro course in Mario Kart 7 as the final track in the Shell Cup, with various changes. The mansion's foyer has been redesigned to more closely resemble its original appearance. The carpet now continues onto the bottom floor, and the stone tunnel now has cobwebs. In the graveyard, a Glide Ramp has been added around a gravestone, allowing racers to glide over the gate wall leading to the swamp. Additionally, part of the wall is broken as a small shortcut to cross through with a Mushroom. At the first turn in the swamp, racers can take a new outer slope to reach another Glide Ramp.

The portraits of various ghosts have all been replaced with various depictions of Boo, that now occasionally shake and pop outward. This behavior was originally going to appear in Mario Kart DS, but was cut before release.

Mario Kart Tour

The course in Mario Kart Tour

Luigi's Mansion reappears in Mario Kart Tour. The track mainly uses features from its 3DS appearance, with graphic improvements, and the area was given a tint of blue. Similar to Mario Kart 8, the Mario Kart logo uses a modern design instead of its classic design. The moon now has a bluish-white color, and the finish line banner has a new design. This course is a favorite of Luigi, King Boo, Rosalina (Halloween), Mario (Santa), Mario (Chef), Luigi (Lederhosen), Peach (Yukata), Dr. Luigi, Cat Luigi, Wario (Hiker), King Boo (Gold), Shy Guy (Ninja), and Waluigi (Vampire). It is also a favorite of Kamek and the Chain Chomp Mii Racing Suit if they reach level 3, and Peachette, Mario (Musician), and Waluigi (Bus Driver) if they reach level 6. As with other courses in the game, Luigi's Mansion has an R version, a T version, and an R/T version referred to as Luigi's Mansion R, Luigi's Mansion T and Luigi's Mansion R/T respectively; the former two were introduced alongside the regular version in the 2019 Halloween Tour, while the latter was added in the London Tour.

This version of Luigi's Mansion can also be seen in the background of GCN Baby Park.

For this course's tour appearances, see List of DS Luigi's Mansion tour appearances in Mario Kart Tour.

Mario Kart DS

  • European website bio: "After rescuing Mario from the dark dungeons of this dreary old place, Luigi has decided to make some money from his mansion by turning it into a racetrack. Perpetual darkness means you'll need your headlights on for this one, especially since the trees have a tendency to walk around..."

Mario Kart Tour

  • Mario Kart Tour Twitter: "In the dead of night, the roar of engines breaks the eerie silence...and the race is on! In the next tour, the Luigi's Mansion course from the Mario Kart DS game rises from its grave! Haunted houses aren't so scary when you race right through them!"[1]
