Hookbill the Koopa is a boss introduced in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. He is an enlarged red Koopa Troopa.

Hookbill the Koopa is a familiar enemy in a not-so-familiar size. He was turned into a huge Gargantua Koopa Troopa by Kamek in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Wearing a dopey grin, Hookbill attempted to defeat Yoshi by using professional wrestling moves. However, by shooting Hookbill's large head when he charges forward, the Yoshi was able to knock over the colossal tortoise. Yoshi went on to Ground Pound the capsized Koopa.
A similar boss called Knot-Wing the Koopa appears in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World, as a recurring middle boss in even-numbered worlds. Knot-Wing is essentially a Koopa Paratroopa enlarged in the same fashion as Hookbill. Additionally, Kent C. Koopa from Paper Mario resembles a bespectacled version of Hookbill.

Hookbill the Koopa is the main boss of World 4 in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake, where it resides atop the castle of that world. When Blue Yoshi and Baby Mario reach the area with Hookbill, they encounter a normal Koopa Troopa, whom Kamek suddenly casts his magic on to enlarge it into Hookbill the Koopa. Walking on all fours, he creeps towards Blue Yoshi to attack him and Baby Mario. After walking on all fours for some time, he stands up and runs in Blue Yoshi's direction and lunges at him. Hookbill can take damage from eggs being thrown at either his head or arms. Hookbill coughs up eggs for Blue Yoshi to use if either his head or shell is stomped. After four hits while on all fours or after three hits while on two legs, Hookbill will fall backwards, leaving his belly vulnerable to being ground pounded and damage. Hookbill then retreats into his shell to start pounding the ground, though this also occurs after a period of time. After three hits, Hookbill's shell explodes and disappears, and Hookbill (with no shell and reverted to normal size) falls from the top of the castle in defeat.

If the player runs out of Yoshi Eggs, jumping on his shell or head will cause him to spit out eggs. Hookbill the Koopa is the Boss of World 4.

A similar boss called Knot-Wing the Koopa appears in Yoshi's Woolly World and Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World, as a recurring middle boss in even-numbered worlds. Kamek, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3

Yoshi's Island DS[edit]

Hookbill the Koopa makes a cameo appearance in the introduction to Yoshi's Island DS, alongside the other castle bosses from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island during a recap of the events within said game.

Tetris Attack[edit]

Hookbill The Koopa is an antagonist in Tetris Attack. He appears one of Bowser's allies and speaks with a stutter. Hookbill The Koopa takes the role of Phoenix from the original Panel de Pon at Stage 9. Unlike the other characters, Hookbill is not assisted by anyone else.
