Fishin' Boos debut in Super Mario World. They carry a fishing rod and ride a cloud similar to Lakitu's Cloud but without a face. Also, instead of a 1-Up Mushroom, Fishin' Boos carry a blue flame and follow the player in a way that makes it hard for them to jump. They have the same immunities as a normal Boo and therefore can only be Spin Jumped on. Their sprite depicts their hair as light blue, instead of black, possibly to make it distinguishable from the background.

Fishing Boos reappear in Super Mario Run as of the version 3.0.4 update, where they are found in the level Fishing Boo Taunts You. Although they are still found carrying harmful blue flames, they can also carry items such as Super Mushrooms, coins, color coins, and Super Stars. In this game, despite the flames they carry, the enemies themselves are completely inoffensive, and can be defeated with a stomp attack, which reveals that they appear to be wearing sheets and brown shoes.

Fishing Boos are encountered in Fishing Boo Taunts You only. They move in sine waves across the top of the screen, reversing direction at the edges. The Fishing Boo itself is no longer dangerous to touch, in fact they can be defeated with a stomp attack, which reveals that they appear to be wearing sheets and brown shoes. Their lines may carry blue flames, as before, but can also carry a coin, color coin, Super Mushroom, or Super Star. A Fishing Boo leaves if the player reaches specific points on the course, or if the item on its line is collected. They fly off the top left of the screen, similarly to Lakitu. Fishing Boo usually always have gold sparkles, they drop a mass of coins when defeated. These coins land in a row across the screen to the right of the Fishing Boo. Due to using 3D models, a Fishing Boo's turning animations are much smoother than before, making the movement of the line more predictable.

Fishing Boos (alternatively Fishin' Boos) are ghostly Fishin' Lakitus that ride a cloud without a face. They attempt to hit the player character with a blue flame at the end of their fishing lines. The name "Fishin' Boo" was localized from an early Japanese name, "Fishing Telesa".[1]

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

Super Mario World[edit]

A Fishin' Boo in Super Mario World.
Artwork from Super Mario World, showing a Fishin' Boo's original design

Fishin' Boos are enemies in Super Mario World. They are encountered in Choco-Ghost House only. Fishin' Boos carry a fishing rod and ride a cloud similar to Lakitu's Cloud but lacking the face. Fishin' Boos carry a blue flame from their fishing pole and try to hinder the player's jumping ability. Fishin' Boos have the same invulnerabilities as a normal Boo and therefore can only be Spin Jumped on. Their sprite depicts their hair as light blue, instead of black, possibly to make it distinguishable from the background.

Super Mario Run[edit]

Fishing Boos are enemies in Super Mario Run, which were added in the version 3.0.4 update. As such, they cannot be levelled up.

Nintendo Puzzle Collection[edit]

A Fishin' Boo is the fourth non-player opponent in the Hard difficulty of VS. Mode in Nintendo Puzzle Collection's remake of Yoshi's Cookie

Super Princess Peach[edit]

Fishing Boos are enemies in Super Princess Peach. They also received a calm variety, C. Fishing Boo. Both types reside in Shriek Mansion on Vibe Island, and only Rage can defeat them.

Unused appearances[edit]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

Fishing Boos were also likely going to appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, as an unknown object was named similarly to Fishing Boo, but the idea was scrapped.
